Support update
« on: August 22, 2008, 10:22:50 AM »
Well, I went to the support group yesterday.  It wasn't what I thought it would be.  I thought there was going to be lots of sharing of feelings, which I have to admit made me nervous - not that great with the sharing of feelings stuff especially face to face- but it was a nice surprise.  It seems to be more of a social gathering. There were about 40 people, everyone was friendly and welcoming.  Free food and drinks. There were representatives (there was one very attractive woman with a fabulous up-do hair piece) from a funeral home to inform us about setting up our pre arrangements. It wasn't as grim as it sounds, it was actually very informative and interesting.  I wasn't aware that these days you can make your memorial service any way you want it - be it with pictures, slides, home videos, and any kind of music you want, even props.
I sat next to a woman who had lost her husband on Labor Day, she was so sweet and to the right of me was a soldier who had just transferred here three weeks ago, and yesterday was his second time being there.  It was a comfortable, nice atmosphere. I look forward to continue going.

I'm glad it was a good group meeting.  My "arrangements" have been in place for about 14 years.
