My HIV Anniversary
« on: August 14, 2008, 07:12:35 PM »
I've been in a weird mood today.  Then I just realized that this is my HIV anniversary -- 18 years ago today I went and got tested for HIV (in the back of my mind knowing what the results would likely be).  When the doctor's office never called me back, I knew the results were positive.  I had to go in to the doctor's office and ask for the results.  The nurse came back and said "the doctor would like to speak to you in his office" (*groan*).  He was so flustered that he didn't know what to say to me.  So I told him "the results were positive, right?".  I remember driving all the way home before I would let myself cry.

I'm nearly 100% sure I seroconverted about a year earlier, back in 1989.  But August 14 1990 was the day I got tested, and that's why i consider it my anniversary.  I'll see if I can find a photo of me from back then, and post it, just for shits and grins.

Hugs,

Henry

Henry Dear,

I checked the Anniversary Gift Guide and found "the modern gift for the 18th Anniversary is Furniture, while the traditional gift is Porcelain.  I have an idea... Let's celebrate the Porcelain god on this important day?  Have the best day

Just wanted to wish you all the best on your anniversary. I don't think Hallmark has a card for this to send you...but if it did, it would say thanks for hanging with us.

Henry,

An anniversary gives one the opportunity to also see how far one has progressed.  Just imagine (and remember) that fourteen years ago, none of us would have been given much of a chance of a quality life.  Things have changed...and we can hope they will get better.

I am at AMG still in Mexico City and many of us commented that we wish you could have joined us.  During the dinner, we ran a continuous loop of pictures from the three previous AMGs...and of course you were in some of them.

I hope you can join us next year wherever we wind up.

I've been thinking about all the folks attending AMG as well.  I'm going to make every effort to attend next year.

And it sure has been relatively quiet around here with you!   ;)

Cheers,

Henry
