Am i in danger ?
« on: July 14, 2009, 11:22:45 AM »
Hi guys,

On the 13th of April 2009 i regrettably had sex with a pros. It was my 1st time. Needless to say i became paranoid and went for a blood test 2 weeks later. I tested positive for HERPES 1 and negative for HIV. on Week 8 i went for a second test and tested positive for Herpes 1 and 2, negative for HIV. I had a very brief intercourse with her, it was only like maybe 20 secs with condom No kissing and no Oral. I do remember i had some cat flea bite on my feet, and the highest risk i could think of was when i touched her clitoris for about 6 secs. Then she asked me to get on with it, and so i tried to tear open the condom pack, but i couldn't so i ended up using my teeth, my lips touch the spot of the condom pack where my fingers touched before (the one that touched her vagina). It was like a 3 secs contact because she grabbed the pack from me and tore it herself.
Can i get HIV from this incident ? i am extremely scared now. I dont know wht to think anymore, i mean i already contracted both Herpes, who knows wht else she might have. These 3 months i was extremely terrified, i got depressed most of the time and panicked several times. I cant function properly.
Often i panicked when i experience symptom that resembled HIV's. So far i have these symptoms

1) Before that night with the prost, i was recovering from a serious flu. And now, 13 weeks later, i still have runny nose. A very mild one.
2) I have heart palpitation most of the time
3) Mild fatigue, nausea
4) My left arms feels slightly weaker
5) Depressed
6) Swollen lymph node under my jaw and behind my ear. Under my pit and groin area.
7) Stiff neck.

I went for a third blood test lately on the 88th day post exposure. It came back non reactive. But im still experiencing these symptoms. I really really really regret that night, i wish i can turn back time.

At no time were you at risk for contracting HIV.

Your symptoms are not in any way HIV specific, but that's not a surprise since the incident you have reported did not put you at risk for HIV. Discuss the symptoms with your doctor. This is not an HIV situation.

But just in case, should i go for another check up after the 6th month ? or is my test conclusive ? if its not HIV, any idea what else should i test for ? that's all i need to know. No more questions. THANK YOU !! and god bless.

No further HIV testing is necessary.

We can't do any diagnosing here. If you have further concerns you should discuss them with your doctor.

HIV has been eliminated as a problem possibility.

Thank you Andy, do you mind if i post my result at the 6 month mark ? if anything, it just shows your diagnosis is spot on.

3 months is conclusive and you tested well beyond that. There is no reason to do any further testing. You are conclusively negative.

Sure you can post your 6 months result. Re-testing is totally unncessary. Getting tested out to 6 months is only recommended in special circumstances such as if there has been longterm intravenous drug use, an organ transplant or treatment for a serious illness such as cancer.

Otherwise 3 months has long been accepted as a conservative testing point.

You are HIV negative. Period.

I believe u Andy and Rapid, i really do, people who think they are infected with HIV gets really really really nervous. And i experienced it first hand. I also noticed you guys get the "how sure are u ? im safe after the 3months mark, wht if i tests positive after the 6 months mark, wht are the possibility of that etcetcetc" question a LOT. Maybe my posting of my 6 months mark result will help to ease some the first timer's nerves.
That being said, i want to thank you Andy and Rapid. You guys rock !!

You can go ahead and test again at 6 months if you want to. If you really believe us and your result you wouldn't be bothering to do that again, but hey that's up to you.
