Need some advice...
« on: July 14, 2008, 09:30:50 PM »
I'm 26 years old and have just received my latest lab results (CD4:377 V:16,000) I have been positive for 4years now and have been very healthy thus far. I'm have not been on medications as I would like to save my bullets until I need them so to speak. Based on the on my most recent results would any of you say it was time for meds?

KL,
One lesson you need to recall is that lab results need to be looked at for patterns, not so much as single measurements plucked out of nowhere.  You're certainly pushing where current guidelines suggest one start, but what have your labs been like for the last 2 years?

Best,
David

Those are just one set of numbers. Doctors usually look at trends and the percentage. You did not mention your percentage. I have the same CD4 and an undetectable VL and I am on meds. It's really up to you as you can go either way at this point given your current numbers. How have your numbers been over the last 4 years? Are you in a downward trend now or is this about the norm for you over the last 4 years?

That info is key in determining your course of action IMO.

While advice is certainly good to receive from the forums, the final decision needs to rest between you and your dr.  Good Luck, and remember meds are there to help you and the side effects vary from person to person.
