HIV Prevention and Testing > Am I Infected?

Am I...

When I was walking my dog, I saw 2 condoms in the wrappers on the ground.  Out of my curiousity, I picked them up and opened em, and then I threw them away.  The outside of the condom (like the wrapper) as kind of sticky.  I then accidentally touched my cap that was on my head and then I walked back to my house.  I washed my hands.

Basically, I am wondering, if that sticky stuff was semen, and if that person had HIV/Aids, would I have gotten Aids?  I washed my hands about 5 mins after I touched it...

Should I also wash my cap?

A bit worried,

There was no risk whatsoever in what you described.  I would invite you to read the welcome thread, and its related links, at the top of this forum to get educated on the REAL risks for hiv infection.

Thank you so much, sorry I am new as this is my first post.  SO basically, If i touch semen that has HIV, I would not catch it right..unless I stick thtat finger in my mouth?

Well, oddly enough, if you were to stick that finger in your mouth you would still not be at risk.

Saliva actually acts to inhibit hiv infection.  That is why performing oral sex is considered such a low risk.

Again, no risk in this situation.

Hiv is a fragile, difficult to transmit virus and it isn't transmitted from objects in the environment to you. It is primarily transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse.

Please read through the Welcome Thread and follow the links for further transmission information.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

Have a look through the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

You had absolutely no risk when you picked those condom packet up off the ground, no matter what the sticky substance was, and you only need to wash your cap if it hasn't been washed in a while. OK?
