TIPS AND TRICKS FOR WEIGHT GAINING...

I just wanted to know did any of you have any tips or tricks for gaining your weight back? I used to have sexy thighs and then I got PCP and was in the hospitial for only three days and my thighs are GONE!!!! Its the summer and I need my legs, thighs and butt back!!! LOL. I know about 3500 calories equals a pound but who wants to pig out like that???? I'm getting a personal trainer next week doe. I need my thighs back so I can get into my Fourth of July outfit!!! LOL

When I went through two wasting experiences (7 and 5 years ago) I was given Deca-Durabolin (nandrolone) injections every other week.  Not sure what the protocol is with this substance for someone that just went through PCP.  For comparison, as I don't know your baseline weight or how much you lost, my wasting constituted 20% of my baseline weight.  Nandrolone greatly increased my appetite, so after that it was just a matter of eating -- which I also supplemented with 1-2 servings of EAS Myoplex meal substitution shakes, so I was at least eating what represented 4 meals/day for a while.

Well I'm 5'9 and I've always been around the 140 to 145 range. Now I'm 125-130. All my tight jeans fit me like sweat pants now. I'm on Predisone now for the PCP for about 10 more days but the only thing getting fatter is my face and stomach. LOL. Hopefully when I start working out with my Personal Trainer I can gain 10 pounds by July. I guess it depends on what drugs I'm gonna take since I'm currently not on any meds.

When I went through my wasting period, I drank Boost.  I'm not sure what specifically to tell you about what you're experiencing from PCP, but maybe someone who's been through it will chime in.

I make canna butter... herb, smoke mary jane... it gives me and appetite plus I like getting fried since I do not drink alcohol... I workout... and I'm at 172lbs 5'8" but, I think I'm 5'7" now... due to gravity? lol protein shakes ... I use to do the body for life program... now I just eat and workout 3 times per week...

I heard smoking "weed" wasn't good. I used to be a smoker, not cigs, but I quite like 2 months ago. I miss being high so much. LOL. Also I'm not a drinker but once I get my CD4 count back up do you think a shot or two of Patron would kill me? I do miss my Friday night drink. That was the only time I drunk.

hey BW,

I know how you feel, bud.   I used to have nice legs; the thighs were the first thing to go when I experienced severe wasting (1989-92).   They came back a little when I became a regular at the gym, but never to the extent they originally were.

You only have 10 or 15 pounds to gain, so you may be able to get it back.
My wasting was much too severe (35 - 40 lbs weight loss)

Hey, I understand where your coming from but, there's been many studies on the herb thing... some say the pro's out way the con's and vice versa. So, its a personal decesion... thats one reason I make canna butter(weed made into butter) and cook with it... so ones not damaging ones lungs from the smoking habit... now I do know alcohol does not mix well with most meds.. of any kind but, I guess in moderation it may do no more harm than drinking to much sugar. By the way refined sugar suppresses the immune system but, most folks have a sweet tooth don't they... its just called in moderation... now I've been dealing with this virus since 1991... a gift given to me by my ex and I was stupid enough to accept? but, that's many chapters from the past in my book on LIFE! lol so your dealing with this only for a few months... I really do not know what to tell you... I've had friends committ suicide from testing positive to friends whov'e drank, drugged, and died from side effects. I will tell you this and many other diseases are very Humbling... and if one does not try to cope... take a more positive thinking approach to a life altering event as thi... Whatever works for you because, your the one living in your body and no one else... so one of my main priorities I have made for myself is what works for me... it may not work for you... so far my cd4's are hanging in at 1400 to 1500 from my mental attitude, meds, exercise, trying to eat right but, I'm not a fanatic... one thing I've learned and I do not mind passing along... STRESS is a major killer to anyone... you cant make your life stressless but, you ljust gotta find a way to vent and cope...

Thanks for the info. Well when my nurse weighted me yesterday I was at 132. I was down to 125 a week ago when I was in the hospital. My face is getting fuller again and I got my color back. I don't have that pale dead look anymore. Actually my mom said today that I am looking a lot better. But my thighs still seem like they are getting smaller. LOL. Maybe its in my head. I'm holding back on getting a Personal Trainer untill after June 8th because I don't don't wanna over do it. I do about 30 push ups a day now. NO LEG WORK....I need to do sit-ups because this Predisone makes me eat like a PIG. LOL. How long does the wasting last???

Lol I am 5'9" and when I checked into my clinic my weight was 118.... eeep! But for the most part being addicted to meth does not help u gain weight so I have never gained my weight back until I started my meds and have been clean off of meth for over a year... I now weigh about 135-140 not sure it goes up and down... I just ate everything that I could possibly find for the first couple months... now my appetite is sorta suppressed again... and having to get suregery really soon I am really trying to maintain my weight....  So I have been occasionally smoking some weed once in awhile... and it helps for sure... but I can't really do it too often being on probation and all.... lol... I just think my health is a lil more important and honestly it really does help me so I risk it...

I wish I could get medical marijuana... but my doctor said no.... only if I am dieing.... so I take it as a good sign that she won't let me have it since I am not :)

Good plan getting a personal trainer. He or she should get you on a solid diet and bulking routine.Think of this illness as an opportunity to build lean muscle and come back looking and feeling even better than you did before. Good luck!

Hello Bruce,

I gained 20 pounds of lean muscle in about 8 weeks after being diagnosed with lipoatrophy due to HAART. 
The most important factor was the use of the omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids combined with CLA.
For the omega 3 i use 2 capsules of fish oil with each meal.Each capsule contains 1 gram of fish oil.
For the omega 6 i use 1 capsule of borage oil with each meal.Each capsule contains 1 gram of borage oil.
For CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) i use 1 gram with each meal.
In addition i use 250 milligrams of niacin a day in the form of niacinamide,just in case the cholesterol and triglyceride levels attempt to go into a higher range while supplementing with the fish oil.

Enjoy the gains.

I had pcp sept 07 and lost 30 pounds was in the hospital for three weeks. after my release I was put on marinol and ate like a horse I have gain 30 plus pounds and look better than before I ever got sick.

Bruce when I started going to Holmes I weighed 128 and I'm 5'9" also. Now I weigh 160 and am on a weight watch. Give it time, you'll pick your weight back up.
