A new start - Starting meds tonight
« on: May 26, 2008, 01:37:36 AM »
Hi all

I have not been active in the forum for a long while. First of all i like to thank all of you here in the forum for giving me the support i need since i was first diagnosed last August. I changed from being scared, worried to having a positive attitude and learning to live with the virus in my body. I do not feel sad or depressed anymore. I live my normal life as usual. I feel healthy and I just had a great vacation in Cambodia. Life goes on.

Today i went to the clinic and the doctor decided it is time for me to start my meds. I was ready and prepared in general but didn't expect it will happen today, but i know i should be fine and should start now. I will be taking Truvada and Sustiva.  it will be a new start for me. I know i m doing something about the virus and it would be good for me.  Although it would take a while for me to get used to the side effects, i feel i am strong enough to deal with them now.

I like to give this little update of my situation and to the newly diagnosed, i hope the rough time will go soon. I had a tough time in the first 5months accepting HIV and dealing with it. With the help from all the good people in the forum and my support group, i got through the tough time. i feel very grateful.

So tonight at 11pm i will be actively fighting my virus in my sleep...i actually feel sort of excited about it! :)

Hi Mesu

I'm glad to hear your have changed your attitude towards this virus, sometimes you have to keep reminding yourself that you are in control.

I have never been on Sustiva so I can't comment on any of the side effects, but remember everyone reacts different to the meds, and I've read posts here where many don't have any or very few problems with it, I'm sure you will do well.

Let us know how things go in the first few weeks..and keep up that positive attitude.

Hugs
Jan

You'll do just fine. Take the drugs and stay informed. There are a lot of resources and people to help you in this new course in your life. It's been almost a year since I was diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and immediately was on PCP prophylaxis and HAART (Kaletra/Truvada).

It takes some adjustment, yes. But there really is no alternative, is there? Hang in there and it will become routine, and, more importantly, less worrisome.

Good Luck!

I have been feeling ok taking truvada+sustiva for 2 nights. the first night, i got 1 vivid dream after i was wakened up by a phone call at 10.45pm. the next morning when i woke up at 7.30am, i didnt experience any bad headache at all.  I m glad it is working well so far. I slept quite well the second night, couldnt remember a dream i had when i woke up.

so this is the third night, i am going to take the pills and stay up for a while to see how my body reacts to it when i m not sleeping.

thanks all for all your support!

glad to hear you are handling it well.  a friend of mine started taking Atripla and he was disappointed that he didn't get any dreams. Unfotunately I started having weird dreams(and I don't take Sustiva) lol

Keep up the good work

Ok, i tried to stay up last night after taking the meds...after 1 hour, i felt it was kicking in...and then i felt like a bit dizzy like having 4 glasses of cocktails...and as i m typing the message, it is kicking in again... i m trying to learn how to fight it, so that I can still go out at night with my friends.

Torey, everyone in this forum is here for each other. Your support means a lot to me too..I m flattered that I could inspire you.

Sharkdiver, like your friend, i was expecting some weird dreams, so far i have not got any :)

Dragonnette, how are you, sister? i miss you...hope all is well.

it is almost midnight here..so it is time for me to go to bed.
