Tina Turner going on tour!
« on: May 20, 2008, 10:18:43 AM »
The heavens opened up and I heard the angels sing....I just found out yesterday that Miss Tina is going to tour! When she did her final tour years ago, I regretted not seeing her and now....she's going to tour! She's the last of my major artists I want to see live in concert.  So far I have seen everyone I've wanted to, from Prince to Janet, from Madonna to The Rolling Stones, The Eagles, Bette Midler, Cher, Stevie Nicks, Elton John......the thing that really surprised me is that she's not going to Las Vegas. I have to make travel plans! TINA'S TOURING!

She is great!!! I saw her during the Private Dancer tour in 85 and again in 2001 (I think) with my mom.  It was so much fun.  Just saw her on TV recently and she still can move.  And talk about legs, honey there are some drag queens that would kill for legs like hers.

Hmm, I saw 2 drag queens impersonating Miss Tina on Christina's court once. That is probably the closest this Queen will get to seeing Tina.. :D

Ahhh boo, I just called my curious-bi-sexual-lesbian friend to tell her about the concert because we always go to concerts together....and I temporarily forgot about our trip to Key West. Can't do both, that's too much money....so I told her, "Girl, it's TINA! YOU BETTER BE GOOD TO ME! I know we would love to go to Florida but WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT!"    ::)  Well, ok, I didn't exactly tell her that but it was close enough.  ;)

I saw her on Oprah the other day with Cher.   Both ladies are amazing, Tina at 68 and Cher at 61.

I'd love to see her in concert; unfortunately any seat I could afford would be so far away, I still wouldn't see her, even if I went.

Hope you get to go to the concert Texan!

A little known fact:  Tina pumped this one out, "Let's Stay Together", with the members of UK act Heaven 17 (who, coincidentally, were founding members of The Human League).

That song totally saved her career .. otherwise she might still be performing in some sleazy night clubs in Vegas.

I am beginning to get a sense that our dear Philly was a total "New Romantic" queen. Not that many people can recall the link between Heaven 17 and Human League!

Human League and Heaven 17 I listened to in high school, early 80's.  J&MC's first album, Psychocandy came out late '85.  By then I was a total 4AD queen.

By '87 I ditched it all for Acid House.

You mean like This Mortal Coil? Dead Can Dead? Cocteau Twins? I have among my collection of old vinyls a high-priced 4AD compilation called "Lonely is an Eyesore".. last time I checked it was sold like 200 Euro on eBay.

Back to Tina.. how old is she old? She must by at least my mum's age.

Vinyl of course Philly! All those limited edition vinyls of 4AD worth a fortune these days. Check eBay, "Lonely is an Eyesore" went for 200 Euro. I also have a few 4AD albums that I think worth some money - a limited gate-fold version of "Guitar and other Machines" by The Durutti Column that comes with an EP, a Japanese 12" of "Pump up the volume" and a 12" of "Love's Easy Tear" by Cocteau Twins. :D

How I spent all my money earned from waiting tables!

komnaes,

Oprah quoted Tina's age as 68.   I looked her up on "who's alive and who's dead" and it gives her birthdate as 11-26-1938.   That means she is 69.

PS - Cher turned 62 yesterday!  Happy Birthday Cher !

LOL.  Don't worry Tim -- some of us got this joke all too quickly.  It takes one Tina queen to know another.  And we ain't talkin' Turner.

I got to see The Dick Cavett Show when Janis Joplin was asked who she liked to see when she goes out.  Janis Joplin said, "you may not have heard of her yet because she is with a duo but Tina Turner will be the act to see." ;D

Several years later, I was in South Shore Tahoe and Tina Turner introduced herself as having been part of a group.  She had an orchestra, 26 dancers, did 4 costume changes, opened with Proud Mary and closed with The Bitch is Back ;D

Two years ago at the Russian River Blues Festival, Ike Turner talked about loving a woman for 17 years and she made a movie.  Ike introduced his new girl who looked like Tina Turner, performed like Tina Turner and opened their act with Nutbush City.  ;D  Have the best day
Michael
