very sick
« on: April 14, 2008, 05:44:36 PM »
okay, so this is day 6 of this horrible cold.   I guess this is what a sero-conversion must feel like...I never had any "symptoms" when I became positive so I guess this is what they talk about with the fever and chills and having to change my bed sheets in the middle of the night.

I have a terrible cough and chest congestion, now it has filled my ears and I have a nasty upper respiratory infection..good thing is I went to the doctor when I should..had I tried to ride this off, I would probably be in the hospital with pneumonia in the next couple of weeks and missed the AIDS/LifeCycle ride altogether  :'(
so now I am on antibiotics and a nice cough syrup with codeine ( I am allergic to guaifenesin).  If I don't get better by Wednesday that probably means I am in deep shit

I woke up hacking this morning and I really hope I'm not catching bronchitis.  I get it at least once every year, and have done so since college :(

You are not planning on participating in that ride if this is still persistent, are you?

Poz,

Also wishing you a speedy recovery, Those anti-biotics should start kicking in. Avoid dairy, drink plenty of water, and keep your head elevated when sleeping. This will help keep the sinuses clear. What anti-biotics does the doc have you on ? Watch that codiene syrup, might make your stomach a little queezy.
Make sure to continue taking the anti-biotics, even when you start feeling better, finish them off per instructions.

Get well-----Ray
Current Meds ; Viramune, Epzicom, 40mg of simvastatin, 12.5mg of Hydrochlorothiazide.

thank you all for the get well wishes.
I am on AUGMENTIN 875 2x day.  I don't have a fever anymore  ;D, just the cough and congestion...
I am being good and I am staying home sleeping a lot and drinking lots of water and having lots of my mother's Jewish penicillin (aka chicken soup).  Mothers are so special... mine called my roomate (mind you not me) to tell him how to make her special chicken soup so he could feet it to me.
I won't go back to work until Wednesday so I will rest and take care of myself and I won't ride my bike until the following weekend as I have promised my doctor, I rather miss one weekend than the actual ride anyways... ;)

Hey Rich,

Augmentin is an old standby antibiotic. Its been around almost as long as I have.  :D

Now, hon, you take good care of yourself and you'll be back in the bicycle seat in no time.

(I would have said saddle, but, I don't want to be too provacative on the Living With Forum.

Rich, baby boy, if you really rest I'm sure you will be fine for the ride. I've been the late-season flu victim that had the damn thing go bacterial, so I'm a firm advocate of taking the antibiotics when the doctor tells me to do so.

Hugs, Love, and a big *smooch*

Update!

Just got off the phone with Rich.  While he's still not feeling 100%, he is feeling much better and will be going back to work tomorrow.  Doc won't let him ride again until the end of the month, but he's in damned good shape and should have no problem being ready for the June 1st kick-off of ALC.

Keep sending him you good thoughts and healing energy!

Thanks for the update.  I hope he starts feeling like his old self again soon.  Glad to hear he'll be able to take part in the ride.

Rich, wishing you well.  BTW, my niece, who is a nurse in Maryland, does a bike ride called 'Ride for the Feast' which benefits an organization that delivers meals to PWAs.

Oy! pozattitude, jeffrey- all of you guys-
please be VERY careful with possible pneumonias.
Obviously, sure; but I want to say it because of my immediate circumstance.  My partner is (still) out of state, dealing with the affairs of his ex who passed away at the hospital after waiting too long with the "cold that wouldn't go away".  :'(

I am an actual "case" of one who waited too long..."flu" seemed to last too long ...more than a week..went to Dr and found ..I had developed pneumonia.....plus serious kidney function failure.......don't screw around...I was in hospital for more than a week  and it took more than a month to get back to every day activities.....

take your meds and get Dr advice soon.....follow it!!!

Nick,
so sorry to hear you had to go through so much because of this damned cold/flu.
I am feeling better each day...thank you everyone for the kind words and wishes for a speedy recovery.
I am on 875mg AUGMENTIN 2x day.  After 3 days on it I finally began to feel somewhat better...I am taking it easy...staying home at night, not riding my bike until next weekend (as long as I feel at least 90% better, I'm still at a 65%).  This is a nasty strain of this bug, my doctor told me that only 40% of the flu vaccines were good this year and it is the worst flu season in years...very bad for the elderly and us pozzies...so please...be careful and if you don't feel good go see your doctor immediately..don't let it get worst....

Spring and summer colds are wicked! Mine eventually evolved into pleurisy a couple of years ago. It took me seven or eight months to recover.
They were just covering the whole flu shot catastrophy all over the morning news programs.
