worried filipino here. help!
« on: April 06, 2008, 04:02:46 AM »
hi everyone, reading the posts in this website somewhat helps me ease the burdens that i have right now.

im a man from the philippines and here is my story:

i had an unprotected vaginal sex with a lady that i met in the bar( i dont know her hiv status). after days from the contact(5-7 days after) i felt like a have different feeling while urinating. i  didnt care enough about it thinking that it would eventually go away. but after a month the unsusal feeling is still der and also a got a fever ( not that bad) that lasted for about a week or so. thedoctor told me that i had gonorhea so it was treated. the unusula feeling while urinationg isa gone. however the feeling of being sick remains (eventhough when i check the thermometer the reading woukd say 37 deg C or even lower). since that i month period after the contact i hav not been feeliong well. i have constat fatigue(even after waking up in the morning), i feel like something is in my throat that i  want to get rid of,and my feetand hands gets numb fast, i felt uneasy, uncomfortable, cant concentrate, sometimes headaches, i always feel sleepy, my eyes are dry all the time and my feet gets cold easily. i also feel shaking of my muscles even if im in the rest position.
these things bother me so i decided to took the hiv 1/2 test, syphliss, hepa test 3 months after the contact.  the results show non-reactive to all. so im a bit relieve. however the nurse told me to to be tested 6 months again. i dont know what kind of hiv test we have here in our country but it a quick testwhere in i got the results in about 1 1/2  hrs. up to now there is stil 2 mnths and 1 week before the 6 month window period. and the feeling of beeing sick, constant fatigue, dry eyes, muscle shaking, numbness, the feeling of something is in my throat(or i think its nausea) is still there. d doctor says its all anxiety but im trying to calm myself all td time yet i still feel those things. i dont think its all anxiety

my question is when can i say that i am free from hiv? is the result that i hav reliable considering that its a quick test? and why am i feeling those things?

i hope u can help im because im really stressed out and worried that i have stopped diong things that i usually do and i feel to weak to socialize wid other people.

God give me another chance have mercy on me!

Thank you guys hope to hear from you

If you have tested negative at 13 weeks past the most recent unprotected incident then you are HIV negative. Period. End of story. The nurse was wrong. You do not need to re-test at 6 months. That's long outdated information.

Whatever is causing your symptoms has nothing to do with HIV. If they persist you should see your doctor to discuss them.

We do recommend that anyone who's sexually active ought to have a full STD panel done regularly. That means at least once a year. Other STDs are much easier to get than HIV.

You also need to learn from this experience. You were lucky enough to have tested negative this time. You need to stay awake to reality that anytime you have intercourse unprotected you are putting your life at risk. It's as stark and as simple as that. You can have sex with as many partners as you want to and their HIV status is irrelevant as long as you always use a condom. No exceptions.

Cheers,
Andy Velez

thank you andy but i still have doubts in my mind.

is it a reliable test? the hiv1/2 test? the kind of test that they had given me is that they took a blood sample from my arm and told me to be back in an hour. but when i came bakc they told me that they taught i would get the results tomorrow. so i think they havent started doing the test. anyway they told me to wait for another 30 mins and after 30 mins i got the result-which is negative. so thahts why im worried that its a false negative result and im too scared to get another test.

can anyone tell  me waht to do?

i dont know what kind of hiv  test is  needed?i dont even know what kind of test i took. ellissa? western bloc? oraquik? or something else? i dont hav any idea what these test are? are the results they give reliable(meaning all the test)? plus i only got tested once(12-weeks from contact with the girl)? should i be tested again? when? (you said that it should be 13 weeks from exposure ryt?) is there a possiblity that the result will cahnge after a week? and are all test guaranteed to be eficcient, 3 months from exposure. coz u know our govt is not giving enough credit to hiv coz they think its has a low risk here in terms of their statistics.

and another question regarding the symptoms of early hiv.  when will the symptoms show up? coz i got symptoms(almost all) and now im thinking my nodes are swollen a bit. and the doctor says its all just anxiety but im thinking its not.

hope u can all help me coz im really worried plus the fact that im going out of town for work wid all the things that im feeling. (especially the fatigue, feeling of beeing sick, and that something is in my throat feeling- icant work out of town for couple of weeks and months with all those things)

help!

Your test was reliable and you need no further testing. You are HIV negative.

ima,

Symptoms or even the lack of symptoms mean nothing when it comes to hiv infection. Only testing will reveal your hiv status - and YOUR hiv status is NEGATIVE. See your doctor about what's bothering you - whatever it is, it is NOT hiv. You do not have hiv.

ima,

We've already told you what you need to do - GO SEE A DOCTOR.

You are conclusively hiv negative. Work with your doctor to find out what is going on. Whatever it is, it is NOT hiv. You have tested hiv NEGATIVE - that means you do NOT have hiv!

If you've read the Welcome Thread like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote
Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Please consider yourself warned.

I am not sure I completely agree with what has been advised.  When I read the first email in this thread, what I hear you saying is that you don't really know if he used a condom, especially if you had to ask the guy.  Did you see him put one on?  If not, just because he says he did, I would not necessarily believe him.  I was infected by a guy who swore he was negative.  I trusted that he put the condom on, but I had been drinking and was not really paying attention. I want to add that a condom can come off during anal sex.  The best way to know for sure if you have the virus or not is to be tested.  By the way, the man who said he was not HIV+ that I was with IS HIV+, and he is someone I knew and had know for several years.  He has told me numerous times that me he is sorry.  I finally realized that I am ultimately the one responsible for my own safety.  Don't rely on the person you are with to be the one to take responsibility for you!  I hope this of some help to you.  BE SAFE!  Take care of yourself when engaging in anal intercourse especially as Ann has said to you.  Dennis  dpnicely@gmail.com

berdache, he has a conclusive negative test result at three months. What has been advised to him in the above posts are correct.

My bad!!!  Sorry, I did not read that far down in the thread.  I read down as far as his struggling with knowing and still being in school and all his fears about even getting the test.  I then went to the end of the thread to respond.  I will check a bit closer before responding in the future.  I stand by my suggestion that he take more responsibility in the  future and make sure the guy has a condom on rather than ask if the guy had a condom on after the fact.  Dennis

I am having bad luck here in trying to be helpful.  I was replying to the wrong guy!!!!  I am not sure how I got to a different page but I did and it was a different thread altogether.  The similar part is that both are from the Philipines.

Dennis,

I appreciate that you're only trying to help, but your confusion is one of the reasons why we do not allow unauthorised people to respond to questions in this part of the forum. If you'd read the Welcome Thread for this forum, you would have read the following:

Quote
Only those Moderators and members who are authorized to answer questions in the Am I Infected? forum are permitted do so. Unauthorized responses may be deleted without permission of the poster. Repeatedly posting replies of this nature may result in a Time Out or permanent ban, at the discretion of the Moderator Team.

Thank you for your cooperation.
