New numbers and stuff.
« on: March 17, 2008, 08:22:39 PM »
Hey Guys.

Well I haven't really been posting my numbers for a while now but I have some mixed feelings about these ones so I will put them out there.

My VL has been <50 (undetectable) since starting meds 2 years ago, today it was still <50 but (detectable)?  What's with that?

My CD4 count was 190 and is surprisingly 319, and my CD4% was 10% and now it's 13%

My liver enzymes are a little screwy, but everything else seems okay.  Was just a bit concerned about the under 50 but detectable thing, and also the big jump in CD4s.  My cd4 count average is usually about 230ish.. but it went down to 153 when I had pneumonia (not pcp), but that was back in October last year, so it's definitely rebounded since then as the last one 3 months ago was 190... but now 319?  Oh well.

Bottom line is I feel good (I think), eating better, exercising.. I just dont want a treatment failure just yet because I'm in a good frame of mind, the best in a long time.  And I'm moving to Sydney in about 6 weeks! YAY!

Onward and Upwards.
Much love
Matt

Good news Matt, even with your questions.

I'm sure it's Matty's shout too.

To answer the question...

All "undetectable" means is the test can't count any virus because it's not sensitive enough.

Some viral tests are very fancy and can count lower than 50 copies of virus/mL blood.

Most tests have a cut off point of 50, which is why in most cases 50 = undetectable

Your result of "<50 & detectable" means:

(1) Your viral load is less than 50 - good, this is the target and means treatment is working
(2) The test can count lower than 50 copies of virus/mL blood - okay, it's fancy test

Moral: concentrate on the number not the word "undetectable". The target for treatment is currently a viral load that's consistently less than 50, not below the level that the test can count.

Hey Matt
Good numbers. Glad to see your in the 300's and 500's should be around the corner.
Keep up with those meds. Keeping on track and not missing a dose makes all the diff.
At least thats why my doc always says.
PS. Good luck on the move too!   ;)

Matt,

I just wanted to chime in and say congrats on your numbers.  Great movement forward and I hope it continues that way.
