Adherence is for Losers
« on: March 11, 2008, 07:26:53 PM »
My numbers are in and it seems I got away with my little drug holiday of November last.

Matty the Damned don't need no steenkin' adherence.

As always and by way of perspective, my previous numbers:

November 2007

VL: 60,500 (up from <40)
CD4 Abs: 175 (down from 204)
CD4 %: 7 (down from 12)

And the latest results which mean I can be as adherent or non-adherent as I damn well wanna be:

March 2008

VL: <40 therefore undetectable
CD4 Abs: 256
CD4 %: 16

Cholestrol, triglycerides and liver function all a bit screwy, but what can ya do?

Heh. :)

Honey, whatever you're doing (or NOT doing) seems to be working for you.

Those numbers are looking pretty good!

My friend J. regulary takes med holidays; he just struggles with adherence, and always has.   He is a LTS, and he may be off meds for a month or two, and his VL will creep up, but so far, he has always been able to get it back under control when he started taking his meds again.   I guess it just proves that we are all different, and you have to learn what works for you and what doesn't.

Good for you Matty!  :-*

Next thing you know your going to start calling yourself an enigma.

LOL

I went a couple of years w/o taking my meds and did fine. I maintained my tcell count and an undetectable viral load.

I tried it again a few years later and my tcells plummeted to 22 and my viral load shot up super high. 750,000 or some crap like that.

Just be cautious and make sure you keep up with your numbers.

Congratulations Mr. Damned.  Do you suffer from the side effects of your regimen? Is that why you would want to stop meds?  If so, I am glad you could get some relief.

the only definition I found for gleem  came from the Urban Dictionary
and it was a slang word for loser or retard (in a bad sense not that I am implying that anyone who is developmentally delayed is a loser)

let me get this straight. u are actually happy to have a 65,000 viral load and tcells at only 150-250?? i dont think adherence is the thing here. i think perhaps u need to be on some different meds......and keep taking them. i've been on the same meds for 8yrs now and have tcells near 850 and no viral load. how someone can be happy to have numbers that officially deem them with having AIDS is beyond me. if i was in your shoes i'd be scared out of my mind.

No, I simply accept if for what it is. Although, my viral load is not 60,500 anymore. It's undetectable.

i dont think adherence is the thing here. i think perhaps u need to be on some different meds......and keep taking them.

And Paris Hilton wants us to think she's an actor, but it ain't gonna happen. I don't need to be on different meds (I take Reyetaz/Norvir/Kivexa) because my resistance testing shows no mutations and obviously they still work. That's kinda why I'm bragging at the moment. I took a drug holiday, had a viral rebound and I got away with.

So :P to you.

i've been on the same meds for 8yrs now and have tcells near 850 and no viral load. how someone can be happy to have numbers that officially deem them with having AIDS is beyond me. if i was in your shoes i'd be scared out of my mind.

As I noted earlier I'm not happy I have AIDS, but I'm not scared of it either. I'm reconciled to it. I've got better things to do than live in fear. Oh, and if you were in my shoes you'd being wearing some faaaaaaaaabulous footwear, darling. ;)

let me get this straight. u are actually happy to have a 65,000 viral load and tcells at only 150-250?? i dont think adherence is the thing here. i think perhaps u need to be on some different meds......and keep taking them. i've been on the same meds for 8yrs now and have tcells near 850 and no viral load. how someone can be happy to have numbers that officially deem them with having AIDS is beyond me. if i was in your shoes i'd be scared out of my mind.

maybe you are a little scared right now.  I guess it would be scary if you didn't have an AIDS diagnosis.  Some people, like me, have had that  diagnosis for a long, long time now. But like other things, you can just learn to deal with it and just try to live a full life as much as you can.

Darling, what good is your head of hair when it's that nasty red color and emphasizes your seborrheic dermatitis?

I don't really see it as seb derm, rather I consider myself to have distinctive markings. Much like your lipo gives your face a distinguished weathered appearance luvvie. ;)

Actually all male models have lipo.  I've decided I make way too much out of it, and now embrace it with a pair of APC distressed denim jeans and a Margiela deconstructed vest.

I prefer my Nudie's, but I reckon the APC cashmere denim would be lush and fab to wear. What would you pay for a pair of APC's in the US?

Hmmm... can't recall exactly.  $150/$200 I think.  I was just by the APC store in SoHo a couple of weeks ago but didn't go in.  I was always more of a Helmut Lang fanatic, and even have a pair on as I type.  Of course, now that Helmut retired the line isn't worth a dime.

Right now it's *ALL* about Swedish ACNE jeans, but I've yet to buy any.  I will soon though... a girl MUST keep up, you know :)

give me my Levis (preferably 501's with the button-up fly).  The best pair of jeans ever made.

Helmut Lang jeans have button flys.  And the cut is perfect for those of us with pencil thin lipo legs.  I'm sure Helmut has teh AIDS, because all of his clothing is for those of us with wasted figures.

$299.00 for one pair of jeans?  I am so out of it.  Couldn't they come up with a better name?  Does Acne mean something good in another language?

We are so ripped off here. Even a pair of basic 501's cost us about $150. The pair of Ksubi's I like are $375. As my Nudie's, G-Star's and Energie jeans cost me about $300 a pair, Ksubi, ACNE and APC will just have to wait. I suspect ACNE and APC will just be too darned long for a short-arse like me anyway.

501's for $150?.  WOW.  $35.00 here.  If you want a pair send me your size.  In fact, maybe the kids' sizes are even cheaper. ;D

We should start up an import/export business.  Use the income to buy your ticket to Mexico City.

And, Mark, you look hot in your Levi's.  I've seen you twice now, once in Montreal and last summer in SF and both times you had on your Levis' and looked mahhvelous.

Probably a good idea; an export business  !!!

We used to be able to order & buy online (much and much cheaper) from american online shops. However since about a year it's becomming more and more difficult and sometimes virtually impossible, because we a redirected to European online shops/sites. Importers and distributors have been seeing a decline in their sales, and managed to put a halt to "parallel imports". A pair of Levi's 501 goes on average for Ä100's (if bought online!) factor in the currency exchange rate and it adds to +/- $ 145,=

Correct me if I am wrong, but I do believe the very American Levi's are no longer even made in America.

edited to add:

we've gone from genes to jeans in this thread ;D

I think you right, Doxie.   I know Levis had factories in the South and in Texas.  They closed them up and moved to Mexico.  I think even Mexico got too expensive and now they're made in SE Asia somewhere.

Grasshopper, like I said, send me your size and I'll send you some Levis.  Hey, if you sell them to the people in your support group at $75/pop, they'll get them at 1/2 price and you double your investment. Maybe that will be the motivation to get you to Mexico city too.

robert

this thread, like most of MtD's has gone to the dogs.  But that's OK.  Matty might bitch and moan about a lot of things but I don't think he's that picky about his 'threads' so talking about jeans just might be OK.

Pssshhh sometimes you can buy Levis for $22- $28 bucks on sale.

Anyone else notice that their sizing is screwed up?
I wear one size smaller in Levis than any other pants.
