Very Frightened...Results not back yet??????
« on: July 17, 2006, 10:19:17 AM »
Hello,

I know everyone on here is very nice and you do not like to scare anyone but I need  the straight answer, no sugar coating. I took my test 2 weeks ago and returned for the results as I was told but they said my results have not gotten back yet. It has been two weeks already. Does this mean I have tested positive and they are performing other tests to make sure and chek everything?

PLease help, I am scared.

what,

No, the delayed test results mean nothing of the sort. Sometimes the labs are just very busy.

What do you believe your risk to be? You might well be worrying over nothing.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Ann,
ty for taking the time to respond to me. My exposure was complete in that I had unprotected oral, vaginal, anal sex. IT was with my now ex-girlfriend who told me she had once cheated on me with someone without protection and di not know the guy or his status.

what,

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL STIs together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with a sexually transmitted infection.

You have had a risk and I'm glad you have tested. If you do come out of this hiv negative, I hope you will not make the same mistake again. You MUST be using condoms unless you know for sure - through testing together - that your partner is hiv negative.

Hang in there - you do have a good chance of testing negative. If you do, use condoms and stay that way. Check out the condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use those condoms with confidence. Please also check out the Welcome Thread and follow the links for further information.

Good luck with the test.

Ann

PS - make sure you test for ALL sexually transmitted infection. The others are all much more common and more easily transmitted than hiv.

Hi.

When i took my test, it was 3 weeks before i found out the results. That's only because i went  to the clinic myself. When I got there, my results still hadn't made it in. After what seems like an eternity, we were able to call the lab and get my results. I tested negative. So maybe the lab is busy. Call and find out what's holding up your test results.

Don't be worried about delays. I had my first HIV test done at the doctor's office and they said it would be back in 3 to 5 days. It took over 2 weeks! I was convinced that I was positive and they were performing some extra tests or whatever (my mind was making up all sorts of scenarios) It ended up being negative. It was just delays in the process. Best of luck to you.

I would like to thank everyone for helping me. I received my results today and I tested Negative. I am so relieved, although I need to ask: I tested at approximately 16. DO I need to retest at 6 months just to be safe?

WhatdidIdo,

No.  You are conclusively hiv negative.

A test at least 13 weeks post exposure is conclusive.
