Psychiatric Hospital
« on: February 27, 2008, 12:43:02 PM »
Hi everyone, on January 24th, I had a relapse and started drinking like a mad man.  I went to a gay bar and remember having oral sex with this guy I know who says is negative.  I also had a blackout for hours, I don't remember what I did, I could have had anal sex my butt did not hurt the next morning, but honestly I don't remember.  My brother had aids and passed away in 7 months since he never received treatment or meds.  The following weeks after the incident I fell into a major depression and ended in a psychiatric unit for a week.   I got tested 19 days after the encounter and it was negative.  I just want to know what you think about chances of getting hiv since I trust your advice.

Thank you

Based on what you have reported it seems unlikely that you had anal sex during your blackout. But HIV is never something to guess about so the wise thing is to get tested.

For a conclusively reliable result you need to test at 13 weeks after the most recent possibly risky incident.

Good luck with your test.

Andy, what I found really interesting is that both of my psychiatrists did not see any risk with just one sexual encounter (even though i dont know if it happened).  I wonder why that is, what difference does it make if it is one encounter or many, I suppose they think one incident is low risk? ...

Claudio, I won't guess how they each came to their conclusions. I am going on what you have reported here and responding accordingly.
