What's Wrong With Just Using the Quote Function?
« on: February 22, 2008, 01:36:12 PM »
so what is the deal with all this fancy color/italics quoting of people vs simply using the quote function?

i gotta say it's irritating in the highest.  it makes it so unnecessarily difficult to know who you are referencing and in what post unless it refers to the post right next to it.

the quote function is already there, and it allows you to show exactly who said it and when.  it makes following the thread so much easier.

yes, this other way looks all fancy & unique, but it's totally form over function.  totally aggravating.

i do.  especially if a thread is rather lengthy.  you have to then try to figure out who said what, where & when within the thread if you want to be able to see the context of the quoted piece.

I haven't figured out how to use the quote function with having to erase all the stuff I don't want to quote :)
but I see what you mean.  I have hard enough remembering who said what as it is and it just makes it worse with the color change- but thats just me, I'm slow like that  ;D

I don't see it as aggravating at all.

It doesn't say WHO you are quoting, forcing the viewer to do a word search.  IT IS HIGHLY AGGRAVATING and counter intuitive.

And really, if it doesn't halt I'm going to have to pull out my guns.

Agreed; it's quite annoying, but I will put part in bold, like I did above, to show what part of the quote in particular I'm referencing.  At least I stick with Basic Black.

even more annoying.  you have to wait forever for the whole message to stroll around.

if it just said the poster and the time/date, i'd cease griping.  but i see that others have difficulty reading the alternate colors.

i'm probably not in the best of moods to post anything right now.

Hit quote and click in the area between (quote author=blah blah) and (/quote) then you can use the delete button on your keyboard to get rid of extra text.

Now that I read that I'm not sure if that was written clearly enough to follow the directions LOL

Thunter I agree.  The only time I hate using the quote function is when I only want to quote a line or two and have to delete all the other stuff.  Unless there's another way to do that.
