Spinal Tap Results are in
« on: February 24, 2008, 02:22:19 AM »
"You have extra protein in your spinal fluid" my DR informed me this past week. "It's pretty common with HIV patients." Well that's nice to know. God forbid I miss out on anything! So what does this mean?
"It may cause inflammation" he concluded.

Has anyone heard of this? Perhaps this is why my back has been soar to the touch the past 4 damn years. I don't know.

Can anyone relate? My DR didn't seem to think it was a big deal. It felt like a big deal to me.....

As usual, thanks in advance for any input.

xoxo to all

Hi jeffrey

All I can tell you is if you have too much protein or White bloods cells in your CSF then it would indicate that you have an infection..I'm not sure what your Doc means when he says "it could lead to infection" I would suggest you go back to your Doc and ask him to explain things in more detail.

If you do have an infection then you need to know what kind of treatment you need, if any...sorry I can't be of more help to you.

Hey Daddy J,

As Janno notes elevated protein levels in CSF is quite common amongst poz bodz and can have many causes. Specific infections like syphilis, various kinds of meningitis etc can be a cause, but often it can be as a result of HIV itself causing damage to the brain (HIV encephalopathy).

I agree with Jan, you should pursue this with your doctor. Brain stuff is serious stuff.
