Sore Neck - Left Hand Side??
« on: May 14, 2008, 06:56:18 AM »
I wonder if you can advise

I received protected vaginal sex, and unprotected oral sex (receiving oral) with an escort, & I also for a period of about 4 second licked her cliterus before stopping after I realised what I was doing.

There was no visible blood in her month or menstral blood, plus I did not have any visible cuts on my penis.

Plus the Condom appeared totally intact

I have mailed her a couple of times and she has stated (via email) she tested a couple of week prior to exposure and that she also tests every monthly and that she is all clear for all STDs and HIV.

My concern is being HIV+

My Possible ARS symptons
-------------------------------------
Day 4/5 visited GUM clinic - and tested for normal STDs - plus obtained HIV leaflets (not sure if these leafets affected my neck symptons - Stress - Anxiety or tension)

Day 6 I started to feel my neck of the left side being sore

Day 12 visited doctor and he confirmed glands not swollen, but I had a slight sore throat, which I had not felt

Day 21 revisited doctor, he confirmed that sore throat was gone, neck pain left side had reappeared during the sore throat period,
but I explained that  my neck pain doctor was starting again, so he check again for my neck nodes, and he confirmed that he could not find any glands that were swollen.

Day 46 revisited doctor, neck pain left side still present, doctor check again, glands not swollen.

(Neck pain to this point was localised to a couple of pioint which varied during the day these being:

a) side of neck just under jaws two inches from chin
b) back of neck left side
c) front of neck near adams apple)

Day 46 to now on day 52 neck pain subsided got slight tension pain back or neck and shoulders.
(Not sure if this subsidance is due to doctors comments or something else)

Note this pain in neck was never present when laid down /sleeping, plus was only present at certain points through out the day but not constant.

Please note,
I have never had
i) Any Fever (Temp been around 36 degress since day 10 when I started to monitor)
ii) Visible Rash
iii) Headaches (well nothing usual)

But I have had a slight pain in my right elbow/muscle (like a weakness) which has be present for a couple of days at a time around day 30, day 40 & now

Does this sound like ARS?

I am concerned that the escorts viral load my have been higher if she is telling the truth about the test before my exposure with her

I have been to GUM clinic and tested negative for usual STDs - but I am very anxiety and stress about HIV, not being able to concentrate on anything else.

The most important thing is that you used a condom for intercourse. They provide very effective protection. If the condom had failed you would have known it without a doubt. When that happens it's not about any teensie weensie holes. The whole thing goes and ends up looking like a fringed hula hoop on your penis.

None of the other activities you participated in were in anyway a risk for HIV transmission.

You have no business contacting partners and asking their status. What they say means nothing and YOU are responsible for your own health.

There is nothing HIV specific about what you are calling symptoms, but then symptoms are never the way to know about HIV status if there has been a risk. And you didn't have a risk. Only an HIV test at 13 weeks will give you a conclusive answer.

As for your symptoms, discuss them with your doctor. They have nothing to do with HIV.

This is NOT an HIV situation. Period.

cgs,

Nothing you did, or had done to you, was a risk for hiv infection. Protected intercourse is just that; protected. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection.

Getting a blowjob is not a risk for hiv infection. Not one person has ever been infected this way and you won't be the first.

Going down on a woman is also not a risk for hiv infection.

There have been long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one. This shows us two things. One, condoms are very effective for the prevention of hiv transmission. Two, oral sex is much lower risk than previously believed. We now have the evidence that oral sex is nothing more than a theoretical risk where hiv transmission is concerned.

ALTHOUGH YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST OVER THIS SPECIFIC INCIDENT, anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Use condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple. Read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence.

And by the way, we do not discuss symptoms here - see your doctor for that. Symptoms, or even the lack of symptoms will never telll you anything about your hiv status. The ONLY way to know your hiv status is to test.

Thanks for your replies Ann & Andy

Would rthe risk of HIV increase if the escort was just in serconversion stage?

I understand that you do not want to talk about specific symptoms , however does the sore neck described sound like any other STD or anxiety/tension or stress , as I have NEVER had neck ache that is so painful and for so long?

I would also like to ask if you have come across any statistics on ARS, as to what are
a) the common symptons
b) Do you normally get more than one sympton
c) Do the symptons appear together and leave together.

You say you know we don't discuss symptoms and then you want us to get into a discussion of them and quantifying. We aren't going to do that. NOTHING you are reporting is HIV-specific and symptoms of any kind will never tell you accurately about your HIV status.

As we've both told you nothing you did this time put you at risk for HIV. NOTHING!

Just because you have never had certain physical symptoms before doesn't by default mean this is an HIV situation. It isn't. Dicsuss your physical problems with your doctor.

I am very anxiety and stressed about a positive result, as this was the first only only time i have been unfaithful, and i am in a 15 year relationship - i know i was very stupid too take risks.....

thus i am not sure if what I am experiencing ....

What are the risks associated to fingering..... if you moistin your fingers with salvia? - would it make a difference if you had short nails?

Plus on the medhelp web site they quote a 1 in 20,000 of getting HIV from oral

cgs,

Fingering is NOT a risk for hiv infection. Period.

We're not MedHelp. If you have questions about what appears on their website, go ask them.

The guilt you feel over this incident does not change the science of hiv transmission - and that science says you did not have a risk.

If you cannot handle the guilt, I suggest you seek out a therapist. We cannot help you with that here.

Hi Ann

We are now day 60 and I have a sore throat again, and I am having a look of salvia in my mouth

Occassionally I have feeling that I need to clear my throat but I cannot seem to do it....

Do you think this a ARS or anxiety?

cg,

What ever is going on with you has nothing to do with hiv - you did NOT have a risk for hiv, remember? NO RISK.

Go see your doctor about your sore throat. We cannot diagnose you here.

Make sure you read the posting guidelines found in the Welcome Thread. You won't be allowed to use this forum to go on and on about your symptoms following a no risk incident. Go see your doctor, there's nothing more we can do for you here.

Hi Ann

I do understand what your saying ... even though it does not appear that I am...

I read one of your previous posts yesterday, which said you know only two people on this "Am I infested" forum
that has ever tested positiove.

Does this still stand?

cg,

I don't recall saying that yesterday.

There have only been ... less than five who posted in this forum and ended up hiv positive. Each and every one of them was the RECEPTIVE partner in anal intercourse.

AIDSMEDS has been online for over 7 years. And as Ann said, less than a handful of the many thousands of worried wells have actually been infected. Unprotected intercourse is the way it happens sexually.

CGS,

Don't send me or other AIDSmeds members PM asking for advice or seeking assistance with your issues. The appropriate place for you to ask your questions is here in your thread.

You might want to read this thread in addition to our Welcome Thread.

Thank you.

Has any one ever come accross a posting on Excess Salivia

I have been experiencing excess salivia in my mouth, (having to clear my throat every 5 minutes) along with my neck pain (which is now becoming a throat pain). (I am at Week 10 post a low risk exposure)

I have come accross a medical posting that stating this could be caused by HIV infection.

Could someone please inform me if they have heard or experienced this?

Plus whether if within the ARS period or well pass this period?

cg,

Excess saliva has nothing to do with hiv. As you've been repeatedly told, if you're having symptoms that worry you, GO SEE YOUR DOCTOR! We cannot diagnose you here but we CAN tell you that you did NOT have a risk for hiv infection.

If I find out you're still sending PMs to hiv positive members of these forums, you will be banned. We do not allow that here and if you've read the thread Matty linked you to, you'll know that.

And if you've also read the Welcome Thread before posting like you're supposed to, you will have read the following posting guideline:

Quote
Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). If you continue to post excessively after one Time Out, you may be given a second Time Out which will last eight weeks. There is no third Time Out - it is a permanent ban. The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

Please consider yourself warned.

Hi Ann

Sorry That I am very paranoid...

As I have mentioned previously I am very concerned (even though you and other have pointed out - I had a low risk exposure) that my constant neck pain is related to acute HIV.

I have spoken to my Doctor on Three occassions about the neck pain, and he states its related to anxiety/stress of my exposure.

But its very strange that what stated off as
a)  stabbing neck pain (left side) Day 6
b) which developed into a mild Sore throat Day 10
c) which then came back to neck pain Day 20
d) which then turned to Neck tension Day 50
e) which then turned into a sore throat Day 57
f)  which has now Day 68 turned into what appears to feel like a lump in the back of my throat - plus slight neck pain.
(Note doctor has check for neck lymph nodes three times and he states they were not swollen)

I am now on week 10.5 and I am totally convinced am I positive due to this lingering neck & sore throat pain ...

I have a test booked for two weeks time.

I know you do not talk about symptoms as a rule, but could I just ask you, if have you ever come across anyone who only ARS .acute issues have been neck pain and sore throats, which flucture between the two?

You have been told repeatedly by Ann and Andy that you did not have a risk for HIV..and you have already been warned by Ann..yet you still come back and tell us that you are totally convinced you are HIV+

I'm giving you a 28 day TO...you should have read the welcome thread like Ann asked you to.

I hope you take this time to continue to talk to your doctor and think about what the experts here have told you.
