3 weeks holidays - YAY!!!
« on: January 25, 2008, 12:26:41 AM »
Today is my last day of work for 3 full weeks. Yippey!!!

I'm in such need of a break. I have no major plans other than to relax, go to the beach lots and do lots of swimming. I have a couple of short trips planned. I'll pop down the coast for a few days to catch up with mum and dad, my sister and the twins, and my brother and his family.

I'm also heading up the coast to Newcastle for a few days. Newcastle, with over 280,000 is the 7th largest city in Aus, and the world's largest coal export harbour. Every person that I've mentioned my trip to sort of takes a backward step and shrieks, "Newcastle!!! It's full of bogans". People can be such snobs. I like industrial landscapes, and hey, I'll do a bogan if the chance arises.

I tend to steer clear of the computer screen when I'm on holidays. Be kind to each other.

C U later.

Steve

So this is what happens once the dreaded Socialists seize power, is it? Federal public servants go gadding about on holidays!

Outrageous!

Newcastle is full of bogans, babe. Matty the Damned recalls that the 1989 earthquake did about $20 million worth of improvements to the place.

Have a bogan for me. :)

Hey Steve.~~~

I've heard of Newcastle.  And I've heard of the coal in Newcastle.  But the Newcastle I'm thinking of is in England.  And my mother was always looking at me and saying something about carrying coal to Newcastle.  Never quite knew what she meant.

Now, you've got me with 'bogan'.  I do know someone with a heavy Irish accent is  said to speak with a brogue. So maybe a bogan is someone who lives in your Newcastle with a brogue?

Whatever....Have a great time.....robert

Hi Steve

Have a great time and come back well rested and re-energized..and give the twins a big hugs for me.

ROBERT..A Bogan is  person who is, or is perceived to be, unsophisticated or of a lower class background. The stereotype includes having speech and mannerisms that are considered to denote poor education and uncultured upbringing. Typical traits include drinking beer, smoking, religiously follow the AFL and drive around in Aussie built Holdens or Fords... ;)

.. and you put your picture up so I would recognise you on the way through. How sweet  :P

Never quite knew what she meant.

“Carrying coals to Newcastle” is to be wasting your time, or doing something that is a bit pointless. In times of old, Newcastle was a major coal exporting port, so it would be pretty pointless sending a ship full of coal there.

Hope you have a great 3 weeks Steve.

I always thought Newcastle was the place where bear couples went to get away from it all.

big hugs,
John

Three weeks should be just about the right amount of time for you to try out that brand new, Prezista-powered pooper. ;)
