Outrage at Rape Sentence
« on: December 10, 2007, 11:57:05 PM »
What's going on?  Last week it was some poor kid in Iran.  Now it's a 10 year old girl. The nine people who pleaded guilty to raping a 10-year-old girl were given suspended sentences or probation by the judge

But get this.  The Judge said...

but that the victim in this case "was not forced and she probably agreed to have sex with all of you,"

(yeah, right. She's all of  10 years old)

Now was this just another regressive Islamic ruling by another ruling satrap?  Hardly.  This happened down under in Australia.  What makes it worse it that happened to an Aborginal girl.  What it an Aborginal judge?  I don't think so.

You're quite right. This decision is an appalling one and has been roundly condemned by aboriginal leaders in Queensland. One can only wonder how Her Honour interpreted the the common law in this matter.

The Premier of Queensland, Anna Bligh, has ordered a wide ranging review of this and other cases.

It should also be noted that the Prime Minister (a Queenslander) has condemned the decision.

Nevertheless, Australia is governed by the rule of law and this matter is in the hands of the Courts. We can only hope that the Justices of the Queensland Court of Appeal find that Her Honour erred in law and fact.

What a shame!!!! I am glad the sentence is being appealed. Something in the milk definitely ain't right. No one deserves to get raped, the judge might as well have said that she asked for it!!!!! I wonder how he would've felt if it was his daughter or grand daughter....... >:( >:( >:( >:(

The reason that the Judge made these sentencing orders is because the Crown Prosecutor recommended them. In his submission he dismissed the incident as "childish experimentation" that is to be expected in remote communities.

He has been stood down by the Queensland Attorney-General.
