What the hell are these. Seriously.
« on: December 09, 2007, 03:57:42 PM »
Okay, so. I woke up today with really scary looking black bumps in my mouth. Maybe it's more. Dark red. Rather than black. But it's definitely so dark red that it seems black. Anyway, I have a couple on the insides of my cheeks.

And they're making me really nervous. I don't want to go to the doctor and have him tell me it's something stupid and I'll feel silly, so I'd rather just ask here first. But what the hell is in my mouth?

Well Jas, you know we can't diagnose your spots over the internet, but they kinda sound like blood-blisters. Have you been sucking hard on something? I'm not being smutty when I say that....

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

I've had one a couple of times in the same place this past year (blood blisters).

One easy way to tell is to check it's location in relation to where your teeth bite together.  Chances are you've bitten the inside of your cheek while you're asleep.

If it is a blood blister, it will go away very fast.

In the last couple of years, for the first time in my life, I've had several of these. And, if they're the same type as yours Mouse, they're blood-filled. When I researched it I learned they are often caused by rather minor insults to the oral tissue. They can be rather large and slightly uncomfy or agitated areas. Even a trip to the dentist can cause one if a tool or device bumps the tissue.

In every instance, (no medical advice sought), with my finger covered with sterile gauze or paper towel, I applied gentle pressure until it burst and then used a salt water rinse to speed healing. The tissue healed within two days or less.

I hope this is what you're dealing with. And, yes, if you're chewing or nicking your mouth during sleep, that could cause it.

If you grind (or think you grind) your teeth during sleep, ask your dentist if he or she could check your alignment---you might need a simple painless high-speed zzzt, zzzt,(also known as occlusal equilibration) to take a little enamel down so your bite is aligned.

One of them popped/is gone and I am throughly grossed out. I don't know if it was filled with blood or what, because I didn't taste anything, but I'm glad it's not there anymore at least. Hopefully the other ones will follow soon.

Please don't. We discourage the practice of posting photos for diagnostic purposes. No kidding.

They sound like blood blisters.  I've gotten them before by biting the inside of my cheek.  They look like a black spot, and go away quickly.  Hopefully this is the case.  As mouth ailments go, this one is pretty easy.  I once had shingles manifest itself in my mouth / cheeks / gums -- ugh.  Believe me, if that were the case, you wouldn't even be typing right now because of the pain.

Regards,

Henry

YEAH I HAVE HAD THEM TOO...usually on the left side way in the back where my teeth come together...they do look scary...but as evertyone said they go away really fast.
