Viatical Settlements
« on: December 02, 2007, 08:01:23 AM »
Back in the early 90's I cashed out about 4 or 5 life insurance policies with different Viatical companies. At the time it seemed like a great deal. I got fast cash, and got to spend it on whatever and enjoy what I thought were the last few years of my life. Now of course I know the deal was a true scam. I got next to nothing for the polices and a few of the buyers of my policies now have been ripped off due to fraud by the Viatical company's. Another good thing for me and not the buyers is that I lived 17 years since I cashed out the policies. I was not a good investment for the buyers. With a cd4 of 30 when I cashed the polices out and a cd4 around 450 now, I was not a good risk for the buyers. The new meds that came out saved me but made the buyers lose. Anyway, what is the most annoying is that the only viatical company left handling one of the policies I cashed out calls me every month to check in. (To see if I'm still alive I say) After all these years I'm tired of them calling, but according to them the agreement I signed states that I must stay in contact with them on a monthly basis. Does anyone else out there have to do this?
