As Matty the Damned was rifling idly through his image collection he found pictures he took last year when he was laid up in hospital with Henoch-Schoenlein's Purpura (HSP). Alas the rules of the Living With forum prohibit the posting of inline images so he includes them as attachments.

Why post these pictures? Well one I get to show off my shapely legs and dainty hooves and it'll send those symptom shopping WW's from AMI into a total tizzy.

Sorry Andy. :)

Looks pretty nasty Matty..but the legs look good... ;)

I can't remeber and I'm too lazy to look it up, but did you have corticosteriod and cytoloxic therapy..or just corticosteroid treatment?

Just as well it's all cleared up, times for those shorts to come out of the closet.

Glad to see I'm not the only one to take pictures of their various outbreaks of "whatever".  ;D And I'm happy to say with all the weird rashes I've had, I've never had that one.

Did that hurt? and is it all gone now?  ;)

I actually have quite small feet for my overall massiveness. I'm a 10 1/2 Australian. As they say, a lady's feet proclaim her habits.

Or something like that.

HSP is an autoimmune disorder that almost exclusively affects children, predominantly boys. It's exceedingly rare in adults, and I believe I'm the only documented case of this condition in an HIV positive adult.

In kids it's a self limiting condition that causes purpura (the rash you see in those pix), arthritis, abdominal pain and short term kidney disease. Generally it's not treated in children.

In adults it's more serious. Those lesions you see on my legs also appeared on my kidneys, in my gut and lungs. I was laid up in bed for months. The arthritis was excruciating. As a result I was placed on massive doses of a corticosteroid call prednisolone. It was of limited effectiveness and did my immune system and bones real damage. But if I hadn't been given it I would have most likely gone into renal failure.

It tooks months before the purpura cleared up and I still get the odd outbreak today. My immunologist tells me that I should look forward to kidney disease (glomorulonephritis) at sometime in the future.

Man can you spare a kidney?

Oh dear, Damned One:

That looks absolutely awful on your extremities, I can't imagine what it does to your kidneys!  This is the first time I've ever heard of something like this.  Oh and yes, your legs are quite shapely.

I suppose that's one of the things that made my short-lived career as a stripper when I was 17 so successful. :D

Hey Comrade Matty,

I'll give you a kidney if you don't mind our viruses co-mingling. Think of it as an artful dance of writhing passion between two retroviruses.
