My first BIG one!!!!!!
« on: October 31, 2007, 12:40:25 AM »
HURRAY...I had my first real quake since moving to California.  Although I've felt a few little ones since my move (nothing more than a 4.2), tonight we had a 5.6 just 5 miles from where I live....
it sounded like thunder than it got louder like a train approaching and getting really close...next thing the whole apartment rattled and for the next 15 seconds the building swayed back and forth (almost like having sex on a bed with wheels) :o  ....it was a little scary but mostly it was exciting, just like having sex for the first time!!!! ...okay I'm twisted...as soon as the quake ended I stated cheering and jumping..."My first big one" ::)

I remember the 7.1 Loma Prieta quake and the 6.7 Northridge quake.  It is very hard to wear heels while walking uphill on shards of glass.   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Have the best day

Felt like a tanker truck slammed into the side of the hospital.

We're on huge springs, so not much shaking.

Yes, you are twisted!  Lord!   ;)

John

So if the building is on springs and doesn't shake, does it BOUNCE instead?   ;D

Yes, the first big one is always the most memorable.

I think the largest I was in was a 7.8 when I lived Los Angeles. It was centered in Big Bear, as I remember, in 1992.

That was before the Northridge quake that did all that terrible damage.

RAB, I was hoping that would happen, but it just kind of "shudders"....and nothing!

A bit anti-climactic.  >:(

The really weird thing is that you can feel the energy "wave" traveling thru the building.

We also had a 2.9 yesterday afternoon centered  at Concord ( about 7 km from here), that I felt while getting ready for work.

I always get a little jittery after these quakes -- every time the guy upstairs gets out of bed, and the floor creaks, my heart starts racing a bit.

Holding on for dear life,
John
