Why was i so stupid, please ease my mind
« on: September 10, 2007, 07:26:17 PM »
I had a encounter with a sex worker at a massage parlor and received unprotected oral sex from her for a minute or so.  I do not know her std status and have not tried to reconnect with her to ask because of my shame for even getting myself in this position

I had a full std test two weeks after the encounter and tested negative for everything including hiv.  The test done was via blood that went to a lab and i was told it was the most sensitive test availiable but i should come back after 3 months to retest for hiv since it was really to early to detect the antibodies associated with hiv.  I did this and it also came back negative.

I have read your threads regarding this matter which pretty much say i have nothing to worry about.  But for my piece of mind i have a few questions

What if any chance is there of getting hiv from oral sex
Should i test again after six months  or can i be positive that i have not contracted hiv

I would like to also say that this site is a great resourse. There is alot of scary stuff out there to read about hiv and the THEORETICAL risk

Thanks for your comments on this issue

Nongra,

There is no risk of you contracting HIV from receiving an unprotected hummer, so you don't need to test for HIV as a result of that encounter. Please read our Welcome Thread and follow the links to our Lessons to learn more about how HIV is and is not transmitted.

The window period for HIV testing is 13 weeks so even if did have a real risk, you would not need to retest at 6 months. Your 3 month result is conclusive.

non,

My suggestion is that you  move on with your life. Getting a blowjob is NOT a risk for hiv infection. Never has been, never will be.

You ARE hiv negative and you do not need further testing.

Make sure you use condoms when you have anal or vaginal intercourse and you'll remain hiv negative. You need to use them with anyone, not just sex workers, until you're in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested negative together.

Read through the three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence.

You did NOT have a risk during your blowjob and you do NOT need further testing. You ARE hiv negative.

Nongra,

Swollen ovaries have nothing to do with HIV. Your wife should continue to work with her doctor to determine the cause.

My understanding is that hiv can cause swelling in glands and what not and also cause pain in your reproductive organs.  So i have nothing to worry about here?
I know it sounds stupid but i would be devastated if she contracted hiv from me if i had it.
I made a mistake and regret it deeply

So you made a mistake and you regret it, but you have to stop beating yourself up about it...you have nothing to worry about, you can't pass on something you don't have and you don't have HIV...end of story...whatever is going on with your wife it has nothing to do with HIV

Is there a thread via this site for other possible stds from oral sex or can someone tell me what they are.  I received a full std screen after this encounter which came back negative.  Just want to check and make sure i covered everything

Yes, I would say if you have recently had a full STD panel then you've gotten just the results everyone hopes for.

Now you can get on with your life.

Testing following protected sex? I'd recommend no testing. If you're concerned about genital herpes speak with your doctor or local clinic. We're an HIV website, remember?

Sorry about the herpes question that was meant for another site.  Thanks for the advise on the hiv/aids aspect of testing
