AMG 2008 / TIME OF YEAR VOTE

I am interested in your suggestions as to the time of year AMG 2008 should be held.  Please participate in the poll and and choose which month you preferIf you have interest in  attending next year's AMG  please participate in the poll and and choose which month you prefer.  The poll results will be displayed to everyone after the poll expires. 

Please feel feel to discuss your choice below.  I'd like to have this vote as well as the vote for destination completed by November 17th.  This will allow plenty of time to tally votes and discuss leaving people plenty of time to request time off from work.

Dennis,

It might be wise to allow more than one vote... perhaps up to three.  Some people will be fine with anytime in the summer, while others need a date later in the season.  I know this caused some problems last year, as there was no way to say that anytime was fine.  Maybe even an 'any date works' vote would be good.  Thanks for getting this started!

Thanks for the suggestion.  I can't change the poll.  I set it up like this because I wanted to get everyone's TOP choice.  However, after everyone has voted I'll release the results to everyone for discussion.

I was hoping for a tropical vacation so I chose September. because... I'll take two pina coladas, one for each hand... Set sail with Captain Morgan to the promised land.  Have the best day

Again, no "any time" category  again no season choice
September seems to be the prefered time given the restrictions built into the voting
I'd be locked out a second year in a row - in which case I'll take the hint permanently

 Although it's 'high' season, when the fares are the most expensive, I vote for  June/July/Aug so the teachers of the world can attend.

Since voting has become political, I have no shame in saying....

If you have voted for September, you are being DISCRIMINATORY.  Several members could NOT attend AMG 07 because they are involved in schools (work or studies) or have children in school and we selected a time that was inconvenient for them. 

Please consider this when you are voting.

I was able to click on to the city I chose in the poll in the other topic but not able to choose my month of choice in the poll here for some reason.  I guess August is better for me.

I withdrew my vote on the "Top Two Destinations" thread because it is not likely, I will be able to attend.  I also withdraw my Time of year vote of September.  Have the best day

Just a note on voting for the time of year... September makes it impossible for people in school or those who are teachers to attend.  That's why I voted for August.  I'd prefer September, but I'd really prefer for people to attend.  Please keep that in mind when voting!  Thanks!

David, it wouldn't matter what time of year it's held there will be people that can't take that time off. By the voting the most found Sept. to be the best time for them.

I know that, Rod.  If you recall last year's 'time of year vote', there were many that were will willing to go in August that had initially voted for September because they didn't realize that it mattered.  There was even a 'it doesn't matter choice,' if I'm not mistaken.  Several, like me, prefered September (no kids and don't teach) but were fine with August (although our votes didn't win).  August allowed several other members to attend in '06 that couldn't attend in '07 due to being in September.  It's like the location argument / debate;  there are places that we'd each prefer to have an AMG, but then there are places that will allow the most people to attend.  That's the point I'm trying to make.

Since September and August are the two top choices, how about a new poll that would go like this:

Participate in this poll only if you are considering going to the AMG in Mexico City:

1.   I can attend only if it is held in August.
2.   I can attend only if it is held in September.
3.   I can attend in either month.

I like this new vote idea.  Now that we have a location, it seems right to narrow down the time frame.  I believe that Thom and I would vote differently if given another chance.

I like Allan's idea as well.  I think most people are flexible on Aug/Sept, but prefer to vote for Sept because there is this belief that hotel/airfare will be significantly lower in Sept. than August.  But I'm not sure that's necessarily true.  August in Montreal was fine (airfare and hotel were cheap) and it allowed students, teachers and parents to attend.  Having it in September will generally excludes those folks (well unless they skip classes like someone did in SFO).
