WORRIED, PLEASE HELP
« on: October 11, 2007, 05:08:49 PM »
Hello i have been very concerned from a recent possible exposure that I had. i am a male and about 13 days ago I met a girl, we ended up at her house  and we had protected vaginal sex twice and unprotected oral sex (her on me) I was a bit intoxicated that night but I know that the condom was on the entire time and dont think that it broke. The first time we had intercourse was for about 5-8 min I did not finish so I took the condom off and about 10 min later put on another condom and the intercourse lasted about 5 min to completion. about 4-5 days after the incident I started to feel a need to urinate more frequently followed by a dripping sensation even if I wasnt going to the restroom. I went to the doctor and he took my urine for chlaymidia, gonnarea and also NGU which he thought thats what i had, Im awaiting the results. He gave me a 7 day course of  doxycycline to take twice a day 100mg and a 100 day course of ciprofloxacin for twice a day 500mg. its starting to get better but not fully. today i had some pain in my testicles, and now Im worried about HIV. Can someone please help me out here.

1. What are my chances of Hiv from the incidant I described (I was intoxicated but Im certain that the condom was on the entire time)

2. This may be a stupid question but Ill ask anyways, A condom can only be put on form one  side correct, meaning when you open the wrapper the condom is not 2 sided like it can go on both ways. This has me worried because what if it was put on form the other way, if thats even possible. I kow stupid question but im concerned.

3. Do you feel that it is necassary to test over this incident?

4. if i had NGU would the medication prescribed to me clear anything up?

if anyone can please help me It would make me feel better, Im really only worried about hiv, and the pain in my groin area has me a little freaked, which started today...

thank you for any help.

"A bit" intoxicated or not you apparently still managed to do just what you should do -- you used a condom each time you had intercourse. Condoms provide very effective protection. There is no risk to you regarding HIV in having received a blowjob. In the entire history of the epidemic there's never been a confirmed case of transmission in that manner to a guy.

As far as the condom is concerned it's prepared to be rolled on your penis and I am confident you put it on properly. Your wondering about that reminds me of the one thing which does concern me in what you wrote. Mixing casual sex and excessive drinking is a dangerous combination. Fortunately this time it didn't stop you from using condoms. But all too often it causes people to forget about safer sex precautions so avoid mxing the two in the future.

If you picked up anything other than HIV your doctor seems to be addressing that. You were not at risk for HIV this time and no HIV testing is necessary. If the discomfort in your groin doesn't subside that's something to bring up again with your doctor. It's not about HIV. That I can tell you with certainty. And if any other symptoms show up, again that's something to discuss with your doctor. But this was NOT an HIV situation.

Cheers,

Andy Velez

Thank you for your qucik reply i apprecaite that.

So Your absolutly sure that I dont need to worry about hiv in this situation. this whole thing just has me freaked out about everything, and the groin and urination thing has me worried, also is it possible to put on a condom the other way or is that absolutly impossible. Again i know this may be a stupid question but im still concerned.

And also would the medication clear up any Ngu or Uti that i may have?

Thank you

Questions about continuing symptoms and whether the medication addressed all of your needs is something to discuss with your doctor. We cannot do diagnosing of that sort here.

Yes, I am confident you would have rolled the condom correctly on to your penis. If you're new to this aspect of sexuality, how about taking a few condoms and practicing putting them on so that you are more confident when you use one again?

Tell your mind to give it a rest as far as HIV is concerned. Really.

Thank you for your advice, Im gonna try to put it out of my mind it is just difficult..

question though, is there such a thing as holes on the condom would that be a risk, And I heard that as long as the head of the penis is covered fully than you are protected, is this true. Im just scared as if the re were holes on one of the condom if it was old or exposed to hot air if it would damage the condom

At the bottom of any of Ann's post there is a link that will take you to condoms. It would pay you to read it.

td,

When condoms fail, you know about it. There is no such thing as "tiny holes" in condoms - that's a myth put out by people who don't want you having sexual relations outside a traditional marriage.

Like Rodney suggested, read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Thank you all for the help and quick response, It is much appreciated. I was just wondering however when a condom is old or has been in someones wallet or possibly in the glove compartment of a car or things of that nature. what affect would this have on the actual condom? Ive heard that this could potentially damage the condom and this has me kind of worried. Please help. Thank You

td,

If there is a problem with the condom's age or whatever, then it will break. When a condom breaks, you'll know about it. YOU. WILL. KNOW.

Condom wrappers have expiry dates on them - check yours BEFORE you use it and BEFORE you buy, if possible. Don't keep them in the car or your wallet. (One night in a wallet is ok. Three months is not.) Did you bother to read all three links in my signature line like I asked you to? If you haven't, then get reading. The first one even has a video you can watch.

Thank you Ann, I just looked through the web links, they were very informative. So just one more concern adn question. This need to urinate more freqently and a feeling of runny pipes has me a little concerned, I know nobody can diagnose these online, but Ive heard that it coould be a uti or NGU. Would these have any relations to Hiv or am I just overreacting? My doc gave me 2 differant antibiotics like I said, cipro and doxycylin. Do you have any information on this? If I were to have NGU would this be from the protected sex or from the unprotected oral sex I received. Im just confused how I can have these symptoms I f I had protected sex. Sorry to be a pest. Thank you again for your help.

Some of what you are concerned about may just be nerves. But if you have persistent and troubling symptoms that's something to discuss with your doctor. We absolutely cannot diagonose here. And nothing you have added in each entry has changed my original opinion that this is NOT an HIV situation. Period.

If there's another problem that's for you to talk about with your doctor.

td,

These NGU issues you bring up have nothing to do with hiv. Please address these questions to the doctor who prescribed you the antibiotics.

As far as this forum is concerned, you didn't have a risk for hiv infection. You need to talk with your doctor about the other stuff as this is an hiv website.

Thanks for all the help, Just have a few questions regarding  Hiv.

So it seems like the medication helped me out and im starting to get over it. However today I started to get a little sick, sore throat and a stuffy nose, this is 21 days after last exposure, would this be to long for Ars? im not sure how long it takes for that to happen.

Also I had another question, Is fingering considered a risk? The reason I ask is that I tend to bite my nails alot and peel the skin aaround my nailes, which result them to be cracked andget cut sometimes. Would this put you at risk of Hiv through fingering?

Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply, but now Im a little worried, the other day I came down with stuffy, congested nose and a mild sore throat, which has persisted for 3 days now, this was about 21 days after my incident. Could these be ARS? When I woke up this morning I had a bloddy nose when I  took a shower, this is kinda scaring me, Can anyone please help me out here?

td,

You didn't have a risk for infection, so how on earth could anything you are experiencing have anything to do with hiv? It's cold and flu season - see your doctor.

This is not an hiv situation.

td,

I want you to remove that outdated webpage link from your post. If you don't, I will.

You were not at risk for hiv infection because you used a condom. Condoms have been proven to prevent hiv infection. I've been having protected intercourse with my partner for years now and he's still hiv negative.

You're always going to get headcolds and flu. It does not mean you have hiv. If you cannot put this behind you, test, collect your negative result and move on with your life.

If you have further questions about your sniffles, see your doctor. We can't help you with that here.

td,

It's false in the sense that it says the only heterosexuals at risk for hiv are those who engage in anal intercourse. People can and do become infected from unprotected vaginal intercourse too. The way they word things could quite possibly cause heterosexuals to believe they aren't at risk - and nothing is further from the truth. Are you aware that there are more hiv positive women world-wide than there are hiv postiive gay men?

ANYONE who has unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse puts themselves at risk for hiv and other sexually transmitted infections. It doesn't matter if you're gay, straight, or anything in-between or ... whatever. Activities are the key, not sexual orientation.

Keep using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse and you'll avoid hiv infection. Make sure you read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line. The first one even has a video you can watch.

I know that you can get it form unprotected vaginal sex. however I was wonderingon the likely hood, say if a male has unproteted vagianl intercourse one time what are the odds, Ive heard its like 1/2000, is this correct?

also If I use condoms everytime during anal and vaginal intercourse if the condoms dont break than I will remain negative forever? What if it breaks or if not userd correctly? thsi still has me worried...

td,

We don't talk about odds here. If you end up being the one in whatever-number who ends up positive, those odds will be meaningless to you. And they're meaningless now too.

If you read the links provided in my signature line, you won't have to worry about condoms breaking. A correctly used condom RARELY breaks. Why don't you buy some condoms and practice on your own. You'll see how easy they are to use correctly and how difficult it is to make one break - when you're using them correctly.

You're getting close to time-out time. Keep posting over this no-risk incident and that's exactly what will happen.

Sorry to be bothering you again, but based on the information that i have given you regarding my exposures, would you reccomend testing or not to test at all? I just want to know wheather or not I should test over this incident. Also  on oct 18th I had protected vaginal sex but based on the usefull info I was given i shouldnt worry about that.I just want to know all aspects of sexuality and what will and will not put me at risk. It is very stressful going through this everytime you have a sexual encounter. I just wanna be 100 percent confident that what I did the first and second time did not put me at risk for Hiv. Hopefully I wount get a timeout, but I think that this is differant than my previos post. Thank you in advance.

Ann has already told you:

You were not at risk for hiv infection because you used a condom.

No matter how you try to slice this thing, our answers to you are not going to change. We've done the right thing by you in answering your questions honestly and directly. Why don't you do the right thing by us and move on, like you said you would yesterday?

What did I just say?

You weren't at risk. You don't need to test. You do need to move on from this.

Your anxiety is not something we can help you with. We simply cannot provide you with the kind of face to face support you need. I recommend that you contact a mental health professional and arrange some counseling.

Clearly you need some encouragement to log out and get that help, so I'm reporting this thread to the moderators for review.
