Light a candle for Christine
« on: October 20, 2007, 10:45:52 am »
Dear All,

Christine's husband, Chris, told us in another thread that her service will take place at 2pm on Monday, Oct 22, in Hershey Pennsylvania.

While most of us will not be able to attend, I would imagine many of us would like to mark the service in some way - I know I do. I'm going to light a candle and put it in one of the windows of my home. I feel this small act is so very appropriate, as Christine was a beacon of light in the darkness for so many of us.

I originally thought that I would be lighting Christine's candle at 7pm (to coincide with 2pm on the East Coast) but I checked with timezoneconverter.com and discovered that because the US will already be on winter time, but we will not, I will be lighting the candle at 6pm.

I'd like to ask everyone who knew and loved Christine to join me in lighting a Candle for Christine to coincide with 2pm Eastern Time on this coming Monday.

Ann

on edit...
PS - I get the feeling that some aren't reading my second post (Reply#4) in this thread about my mistake with the time change. Please do so if you live outside of the US

I've just been informed that the law governing the yearly time-change in the States has been changed and has come into effect this year.

http://aa.usno.navy.mil/faq/docs/daylight_time.php

This means that if you live in another part of the world and use the time zone converter I linked to, you will need to alter the time it tells you by one hour. Whether you add or subtract an hour will depend on where you live and whether you're ahead of the East Coast or behind.

I'll be lighting Christine's candle at 7pm my time, as originally planned.

Ann,

My candles will be lit at 11am, and burn for the rest of the day, here in Arizona.

Her light will shine across the pond, I've read many posts by Christine in the last year and found strength and caring in the words she has said.
London will be illuminated and she and Chris will be in my thoughts.

A very fine and compassionate idea Ann...I have it noted on my calendar to light a candle as soon as I get home from work Monday, about 6 PM.

My partner and I, here in New York City, will be lighting a candle for Christine, as well.  In the meantime, I am going to try and find a Disney-themed candle to light on Monday, since I know she liked Mickey/Minnie Mouse and anything Disney themed.  I'll also be listening to the theme of, "When You Wish Upon A Star" at 2 pm for her, as well.  I'm sure her spirit will be with us all at this moment.
Love You Christine,

Hi, i want to join you.

I am not sure where i will be on Monday Oct 22th at 1pm Ecuador time, perhaps i will be travelling... but i promise at 1pm i will pray for her and for all of the people who have left us. And... since i might not have a candle in that moment... i will turn on the lintern of my mobile for a minute, in memory of an incredible woman who will shine in our lives forever.

Thank you to everyone who has responded so far - or will be participating but haven't posted.

I love the Disney tie-in ideas, as well as the "When You Wish" song. Chris, if you read this, could you let us know if there is a specific song Christine wanted played at the service? (((((Chris)))))

That performance by Shirley Bassey is certainly a classic rendition..it will bring tears to your eyes..a very fitting goodbye tribute to Christine..

I think it will be 4am on Tuesday, Sydney time, but I'll fill my room with candlelight tonight before I sleep.

A small but vibrant flame will burn for Christine somewhere in the wilds of Boolaboolabongbong at that time.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to post in response. "When You Wish Upon a Star" would be a fitting song to play. I'm sure she would think it would be perfect. My personal favorite is Barber's Adagio for Strings, there are no words but it makes me cry every time I hear it. It will definitely help me smile tomorrow, knowing that candles all over the world will burn for her.

Thank you all.

May I respectfully suggest that when we reach the hour, that worldwide we all observe a moment of silence.

Another NYC candle here today at 2pm. It's a wonderful way to remember and celebrate Christine.

At that time (11am) I'll be at work but I'll find a way to light a candle for Christine. In fact, the little guy I work with at that time loves Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Maybe we'll both don Mouse ears during this hour in honor of Her as well.
