Terrible news.
« on: September 09, 2007, 08:01:17 PM »
For the past almost 3 years I've posted on and off constantly about my pet mouse, Morgan - who has really been one of the things in my life that I can honestly say was inspiring to me and a little animal that I loved unconditionally and who I really looked up to as far as being capable of getting through a lot of tough stuff in life and still being totally happy and joyful every single day.

Unfortunately, I came home today and found out Morgan had passed away while I was gone last night. He was 3 years old, which is very, very old for a mouse. His fur was starting to get grey towards the end - that's how old the little guy was.

About a year ago I posted this on the forum: http://forums.poz.com/index.php?topic=1877 about Morgan that might give you a better idea of just how much this mouse meant to me.

It's a surreal feeling not having him around. I know he may seem insignificant to those of you who have faced the death of a dog or a cat, and surely I've lost a lot of animals (I'm notorious for taking in all the sickly ones that only live for a couple years) but Morgan was really something else. I'm so grateful to this mouse for so many reasons, and he has been with me through SO much. I just hope that he really did live his life the best possible way he could and that I truly did give him everything I could. He meant so much to me, you guys.

Here are some pictures I have of him:

Classic Morgan picture:

This is probably the most devastating loss for me as far as pets I've had, but for some reason I haven't cried. It'll probably hit me really hard later on.

I love you, little guy. Thanks for finding me. I needed you.

Oh, Mouse, he was precious and cute!  I love how you got the pictures of his arabesque tail!  My condolences on the loss of your friend.  It's never easy to lose a loving baby, which is the biggest reason I haven't taken one in since I lost Sasha and Cora.

His tail was his trademark, lol. It was so bitten up and horrid. Poor raggedy looking little baby.

Lil Mouse,

I am sorry for your loss. I agree with Thunter Bunny even though Morgan was but a mouse, he was your pet and you loved him. That is all that matters. The pics remind of Mr. Jingles from The Green Mile. Will you get another mouse or do you have some already? I am not familiar with all the pets you have.

I'm left with three white female mice (Gwendolyn, Dorian and Story), a big, giant male rat (Giant Rat), a pink-toed tarantula (Peter Parker) and I recently took in two six-week-old male rats named Eros (a champagne-hooded) and Helios (a black-hooded, like Giant Rat).

My dad also has a year-old sun conure named Scurvy and I have two black cats (Zachery Binx and Chester) and two red-eared sliders [turtles] (Henny and Penny) at my mom's.

Wow, you have more than enough pets. I do remember the spider (Peter Parker) because you named him after Spiderman. Spidey isn't going to become huge is he? I am surprised you don't have any iguanas but can see why you don't own a snake. Can you train the others, the mice or rats I mean. Cause animals are smarter than what humans give them credit for. And you have a thing for wombats, is it illegal to have one of them? Please forgive me but I am wombat illiterate....

Hi Mouse~

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of cute little Morgan.  I had to put my dog down last April and I miss her dearly.  I can't imagine having a pet for only three years, it would break my heart to have them go so soon.  You're a tough one to take in all of the little critters that don't live as long as cats or dogs.

Here is something I didn't even know about until my vet shared it with me, after I put Casie down in April.  I hope this will help you to know that little Morgan is waiting for you,  little Mouse.  I bet you'll smile once you daydream some and get a visual of your little buddy in his new place.  :)  I know that I am smiling for you here tonight!

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I know it's a bit sappy, but it hit the spot when my dog passed away a few years ago. I'm sorry, Mouse.

I'm really sorry to learn about Morgan.   :'(  I have some idea of how closed we can be to our pets, and how sad it can be to lose them.  As Lucas said above, pets are family members -- that's certainly the way I think of them.
