Dude, firstly the CAPSLOCK really sucks, so turn it off next time you type.  Second, you had safe sex and used a condom, there's no need for you to be on post exposure prophylaxis when you weren't infected and you weren't put at risk i.e: condom for penetrative sex.  I'd go to a different doctor and get their opinion, because yours is making you take hiv meds without sufficient cause to.  Taking anti hiv meds is not something someone needs to do because they used a condom.

Jesse, it wasn't necessary for you to do PEP. Condoms provide very effective protection against HIV transmission.

Your report reads as if you were the insertive partner. If that is so as long as the condom was on the entire time during intercourse and remained intact, then you were covered literally and figuratively. Longterm studies have proven the effectiveness of condoms in protecting either partner from transmission.

It also seems as if you are probably at the beginning of becoming sexually active. Along with being exciting, that can also be an anxiety-provoking time about a number of things, including protecting your health. Go to the link in the first thread in this section and read the lesson on transmission. It will give you the information you need to know about protecting your health against HIV. It's actually pretty simple. Essentially it means always using a condom for intercourse. But read the whole thing. You'll find some useful information there.

This time out I wouldn't have considered PEP to be necessary. Those are indeed very strong drugs and it's no surprise that you're having reactions to them. I don't see the need to continue to take them, but if you decide to discontinue the process, make sure your doctor knows about it.

Whether or not you continue with the regimen, if you get tested I would certainly expect you to test negative because you have not been at risk for transmission.

Cheers,
Andy Velez
