ah the educated uneducated dumb people.
« on: September 07, 2007, 05:51:33 AM »
Well howdy ho neighbors,
So I am online chatting away, cute guy starts talking to me...he wants to get all hot and heavy (mind you at this point status has not been discussed or even hinted upon.)
Me:   Ok, great you wanna come over?
Him:  Hell yeah I do.
Me:   Great,  Ill let you know that Im positive (i don't even wait til the face to face, why waste anyones time)

Ok, now get ready for the response...this was precious, bless his oh so educated uneducated heart.

Him:  Well I promised my partner I would stay negative.

At this point I bust out laughing.   Ok, so you weren't going to ask and if I was a heartless bastard I could have had you come over and never said a word.  I so wanted to say respond to him, "Well FUCKIN A, I so wanted to infect you Im glad you caught me at my evil plan, you go about your don't ask don't tell plan and everything will be ok."

Instead I just said, "thats cool"

Maybe "condoms prevent hiv infection" would have been more appropriate? At least it would have educated him.

HIV is certainly character-building. It's made me see all of the shallow things we cling to, like ego and vanity. Of course, I'd rather have a few more T-cells and a little less character. Randy Shilts

Him:  Well I promised my partner I would stay negative.

Yes, this cracks me up to:  he wants to stay negative, but failed to bring up the subject of HIV with you.

He's not going to remain negative for very long if he doesn't increase his education and awareness of HIV, and become a lot more comfortable and proactive in discussing it with sexual partners.

Regards,

Henry

If people are going to be that lame why don't they just close the dialogue window on their computer without such replies?  It's not like either party really cares in the end.  No worse than a guy ignoring you in a bar, I say.

Having a discussion is no guarantee that your proposed partner a) actually knows his/her status or b) will be truthful about their status. With a condom, it doesn't matter.

That was not my assertion, nor was it my assertion that he didn't need to use a condom if a potential sex partner claimed to be HIV-.  My point was that I was surprised he didn't bring up the subject of HIV, especially since he claimed to promise his partner he would remain HIV.  Actually, I'm not surprised, because I think this guy's response to beefbud was just a convenient excuse, coming from either fear, or lack of knowledge, or both.

I know some people follow the "don't ask, don't tell" approach to HIV disclosure when they are using condoms.  Personally (and this is my point of view only), I  don't see that HIV is such a difficult subject to bring up if you're progressing to the point of having sex with someone.  I do, however, recognize that other people feel differently.

Hi Henry,

Yes, I didn't really think you meant quite that - but a lot of the time I respond to things like this the way I do, with the people over in Am I in mind. They read these other forums quite a bit. You'd be surprised how many times they say that they asked the person if they were "clean" (::)) and proceeded to have unprotected intercourse on the person's (negative) word. They end up on this website freaking out, when all they had to do was use a condom.

I'm always banging on about banging with condoms, even though I got accused earlier today of advocating people use "no protection". Sorry, just having one of those evenings.  :'( ;)

Hi BB, yes, it burns me up too. We always correct that kind of language when it gets used over in Am I. Drives me batty.
