I have never done colon cleansing.  It is not something I would even consider.  If anything's going in there, I want it to make me feel good, not runny.

Hi Kitty

As far as I know it should'nt interfer with the meds once they are in your system, but I'm not 100% on that, hopefully someone will be able to give you more information...or just ask your Doctor and see what he/she thinks.

Hugs

When I had to have my colon cleansed in preparation for a colonoscopy, I had to skip a day's dose because chances were high that a good proportion of the drug is flushed out. According to my doc, it was better to completely skip a dose than to only have a small fraction enter the body. I agree with anniebc, you should talk to your doc about this.

Kitty,

Is there a medical reason you're thinking of "cleansing" your colon? Things like your colon are, in reality, "self cleansing" and should not require assistance in this regard.

Matty the Damned agrees with Goderator Jan and Cerrie that you should seek medical attention about this if you've not already.

What type of cleansing method? If it is colonic, which uses water to irrigate and eliminate, there should be no meds contraindication. If something ingested, I agree with the others to check with your doc. As MtD cited, the chute is a self-cleansing component and diet is one of the best ways to ensure its performance. Frankly, if you are considering the colonic treatment, I think it's a colossal f'n waste of your money. It's got the visuals and the assertions by those doing it, but bottom(no pun intended) line, it's an enema IMHO.

It's called "colonic irrigation", dear- and it's not to be sniffed at.

Its just that my hysband who is hiv negative is cleansing with  herbal  capsules from a health store he picked up and he tells me he feels much better.  No constipation.  he feels rejuvenated and his gut has gone down.  So I was like maybe I should try it but i am very cautious and always do some research before i do anything, so thats why i asked.  He always tells me , dont worry nothibng would happen, but I know better since I am the one sick and taking them wicked horse pills that need no room for fuckups.

Thanks yall

Kitty,

Those "herbal cleanse" type things can be problematic. As we mentioned earlier, the colon is "self-cleansing". If you're having some problems with constipation and the like, very often a better option is simply to increase the amount of fibre in your diet and amount of water you drink.

Psyllium husk (the stuff metamucil is made from) is an excellent choice. Many health food stores sell unprocessed psyllium very cheaply. Not only will psyllium relieve constipation, it can help control diarrhoea as well by adding bulk to your stools.

Herbal "cleansers" cannot be relied upon. There is no guarantee that they are made to an acceptable standard, they may contain substances which can interfere with your medications or cause other problems for an HIVer. If you really want to try one, I suggest most strongly that you discuss it with your doctor first.

Not only that they're a waste of money.

With good hydration and a balanced diet your colon will be able to look after itself.

With no intention of hijacking this thread (except with relevant humor) ::) I'm including a link which I found, quite accidentally, on the heels of MtD's meal of cooked placenta link. I'm glad there's a real reason to "share" this informative site.

Well, complete with an Aussie on the first set of photos and with a Ripley's level of OMG will you look at this!!! May I present...

oh, em....

i'm almost certain Matty will consider you for Preferred Pervert status after that.

two thoughts:

1.  hurray for Dr. Michael Siebert (this queen can spot a GL man even amidst the poo)

2.  i wonder how long it will be until Matty reports they are also now making soy sauce out of this stuff.

this might sound naive, but why would someone go for colon cleansing, unless before sex! Shouldn't 'Anal douche' be enough for this?

Absolutely. Back it up with an Imodium, then you're ready to go for hours. Besides, only XXXL wangs are capable to enter the inner treasure chamber, whereas regular sizes just knock at the door. At least, that's my experience.

As for the psyllium husks, that's good advice. But they shouldn't be taken within an hour after or before taking meds. They act like a natural sponge, absorbing everything including drugs.
