Cd4 % changes
« on: July 27, 2007, 12:10:41 PM »
I was just wondering how much cd4 percentages can chage in 3 months? I know cd4 counts can change a lot but not sure about the percentages. My first test was 17% and I really hope my next one is better. I know if it gets to 14% I will have and AIDS diagnoses. I just seroconverted in December of 2006 can I expect this percentage to increase without meds?

Remember, your CD4 percentage is exactly, a ratio of CD4 "helper" cells to total CD cells.  Since the other components in the total rise and fall with one's exposure to bacterial and viral invaders, stress, and general well-being, a swing in CD4 percentage needs to be viewed in a larger context.  Hence, a seemingly large percentage drop might be perfectly understandable, esp if the absolute number is roughly constant, when the body is pre-occupied with other things.

Worrying about your counts isn't going to help them any at all.

As for your CD4 percentage increasing without meds, that all depends on what was going on when your prior labs were done.  If you have a cold, an STD, or any other infection raging--and those bugs have been treated--you should not be surprised if the percentage went up.  Still, try to not set up a lot of expectations for your labs from draw to draw, just attempt to live as healthfully as possible.

Peace,
David

I have a good feeling they will be better on my next labs, I have cut back on my smoking from 2 packs a day to about 10 cigs a day. I eat 3 meals a day, take vitamins, and no more soda...well I have one once and a while. I now drink lots or water and juice!!! I don't always eat the heathiest stuff but at least I am eating unlike before my diagnoses I would eat once a day. I am also really careful about not getting to run down, if I am tired I try to go to bed early. And when they drew the last time I was stressed to the max!  Hell I can still live my life like before I just have to be more careful about the way I take care of myself!

Healthy life doesn't mean you have to be a monk.. the changes you made make you feel better and give your body some relief and help, this is what healthy life is about.

I wish you have nice numbers next time, but if they are a bit disappointing, don't give up. The machine that is your body is working hard and you may have to wait a bit to see the results, maybe adjust some stuff. Will of mind will help a lot, and it looks like you have that already :) Don't spank yourself if you get a juicy hamburger with a coke, a cigarette and coffee one day, as long as it's just a "treat".

Milker.

PS: if you spank yourself, at least film it :D
