Waiting for test results......
« on: July 17, 2007, 07:37:26 AM »
Well here it goes
About two years ago I had a very drunken sexual encounter with a bisexual "friend" in a hot tub. Unfortunately I can't really remember everything, I feel as if there was some penetration but no ejaculation. The next day I was very uncomfortable with the entire thing because it was very out of character for me. We both had significant others so I never mentioned it. I have since found out that 3 years ago he found out he was HIV+....do the math? I immediately went and got tested and i am now just waiting. I feel very violated, ashamed, and scared. I know that I brought this on mysef but I can't seem to get it out of my head it is consuming me. Any words of advice, encouragement, or criticism are appreciated.
Thank You!

Where were the condoms? Sex and excessive drinking don't mix. You'll need to wait on your test results. Stay busy and time will pass by sooner.

Green, you've done the smartest thing by getting tested. That is the only sure and reliable way to know your accurate HIV status.

Given the specific physical circumstances you have described and that it was a single incident, I would say the odds are in your favor that you're going to test negative. But HIV is never something to guess about so getting tested is the right thing to do.

And you do need to learn from this experience. You can sex with whomever in whatever circumstances as long as the guy is always, ALWAYS wearing a condom. They provide very effective protection against HIV transmission.

Good luck with your result. Keep us posted.

Cheers,
Andy Velez

Thanks Andy and Rod for replying so soon. On Monday my Dr. said the results would be back today but the girl in the lab said it could be two or three days. Sure enough the results were not in yet, I am so glad she said that because if I had just listened to the Dr. I would have been going even more out of my mind. At this point I  just want to know either way so that I can either handle it or get on with my life. I have learned a truly important lesson albeit too late. However, my eyes have been opened to an amazing support network of people that truly care about each other.

Hey everyone I just wanted to say thank you very much to Andy and Rod, my HIV test came back negative today!! I have definitely learned a huge lesson here and it has really opened my eyes to an amazing community of support and love. I do alot of volunteerism with many cancer groups now (due to my nephew) but I am adding HIV to the list. I want to do everything and anything to help this cause. Good luck to you all!!
