HIV

(1/1)

dottie:
I would like to ask a question regarding HIV positive
Does anyone know how long you can have the virus in your body and not know you have it.
Sorry if this sounds dumb, but I can't seem to find an answer to this question

HIVworker:
Many years. Why are you worried?

R

Andy Velez:
The short answer to that Dottie is no, you can't know how long the virus maybe in your body if you have it by guessing. People's bodies react quite differently to the virus and it can be anywhere from a few years to many before signs begin to show up that there's a problem. But, the only way to know your HIV status is by having an HIV test. Everything else is guesswork including going by any symptoms you may have, which is never a reliable way to know.

If you have unprotected intercourse or have any reason to think you may have been exposed to the HIV virus, then you need to get tested. To get a reliable answer you should do that at 13 weeks after the most recent risky incident.

But as R asked you, what makes you think HIV might be an issue for you?
