Book Your AMG Hotel Room Today!
« on: May 19, 2007, 04:55:51 PM »
Hello Everyone,

With just a little less than 4 months before we all descend upon San Francisco, I'm requesting everyone book their room as soon as possible.

Our contract with the Powell Hotel includes a complimentary room with every 40 paid room nights.  If everyone who has expressed interest in going reserves their room today we could possibly have 2 complimentary rooms available to the Grants Committee.

These complimentary rooms will help the Grants Committee out immensely.  Although donations have exceeded our wildest expectations, the Grants Committee has received more requests for assistance than their currently able to fullfill.  Freeing up funds that would typically be used towards hotel accommodations will enable the Committee to fullfill more requests.

<<<<<< A M G  0 7>>>>>>

**Location**

San Francisco, California

**Dates**

September 14, 15, & 16.

**Hotel**

The Powell Hotel

Triple - $130*
Quad - $145*

+ 14% room tax

All reservations must be guaranteed with credit card number or fist night deposit.

Thank you, Dennis.  This will certainly help the GC significantly.

I booked online and mentioned AMG. They called me back saying that they would cancel the reservation and rebook under the AMG group discount. The difference was $4 but it may be more now. They don't have many rooms left, so book now!

Question: Am I correct in thinking that if you reserve a room online you only have to provide your card details or pay for the first night as deposit? So you settle your bill on arrival? Never stayed in a US hotel before (its been a while since I stayed in a hotel anywhere!) so am a bit clueless. Plus I don't have a credit card, just a debit card. Does that make any difference?

I am unsure if I should make a room reservation or not. I had asked the GC if I could share a room with Lisa to  keep my cost down. so I need clarification on this issue. Don't want to fly to San Francisco & not have a room to stay in...

Hi Melia,

In order to get the group rate and have your room nights count towards getting a comp room for the group you would need to make your reservation over the telephone directly with the hotel.

A credit card is only needed to hold your reservation.  The credit card is not charged until you check-out.  You must cancel by August 12th to prevent from being charged a one night penalty.  A debit card is sufficient to make your reservation.

Let me know if you need assistance.

Peace,

Dennnis

I have moved my reservation over with the AMG block.  For those of you who have not yet made your reservations, do not do so online.  You need to call the hotel and indicate you are with our group (AMG.)  This will help the Grant Committee too.

Better late than never--I just booked my room, but I got a central booking office and not the hotel proper.  She didn't not have access to our group rate, but she made a comment and asked me to call again on Monday, so that I could speak directly with the hotel so they could adjust the rate.

I JUST CALLED THE TOLL FREE LINE AND THEY DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE GROUP RATE.  WE HAVE TO CALL THE HOTEL DIRECTLY (415-398-3200) AND ASK FOR "IN-HOUSE" RESERVATIONS.  IF YOU JUST SAY YOU NEED TO MAKE A RESERVATION THEY WILL SEND YOU TO THE CENTRAL RSVP CENTER.... "IN HOUSE" ARE THE TWO MAGIC WORDS YOU NEED TO USE!

If you book online, you can write "AMG GROUP DISCOUNT REQUESTED" in the comment box, they will call you back to change the reservation.

Hey Craig

What time did you call the 800 #?  When I called I didn't have a lick of trouble getting the group rate.  I wonder if after 5:00 they switch it over, but during business hours (8:00 - 5:00 ?) they actually answer it in house.

BTW--I assume this means your coming to SF?  That's great buddy!   :D

I called late....after 5pm so it is very possible that they do a switch at the switchboard...YES I am coming....me and a buddy Dan who is also poz will be attending.   Six years ago we drove down highway 1....started on Sunday in Seattle and needed to arive in LA Friday night....by the time we got to San Francisco it was midnite on Thursday....so my friend Dan gave me a 2 hour tour (midnite to 2am)...we crashed and got back on the road at 8am....figuring we would be back to see the city at another time....well that time has arrived!!

Hey Mr. AMG Cr:

How are the hotel bookings going?  I seem to remember we had a deadline by which we were supposed to book our reservations, but I'll be damned if I can remember what it is.

The reason I'm asking is that I see on the hotel web site that all double rooms are sold out for the weekend we are going to be there.  Does that apply to our block of rooms also?

RAB, I tried changing bed arrangements from 2 twins to 2 doubles about a month ago. No more 2 doubles to be had. Then on a fluke, I called one day about two weeks ago and there was one available. So I was able to change the bed arrangement. I hope.
Now, how does that help you?. Not much except to confirm they are likely out of doubles for our block of rooms, as well.
They are booking fast, too.

Thanks Mike.

I wasn't asking for myself actually.  I made the reservations previously.

I was wondering if our block of rooms (which the hotel has taken out of it's available inventory and is holding for us) includes doubles.

But you're absolutely right when you say:

they are going fast too
.  Hopefully everyone took the coordinators advice and booked their rooms.

I checked on our reservations yesterday and I can tell you that we have sold out of our block of rooms.  The hotel is almost sold out.  We have booked a total of 25 rooms.  Our block of rooms did not consist of a certain number rooms with specific bedding.  Hopefully when everyone made their reservatin they put in their request.  By looking at the rooming list this looks like it was done.  If anyone is concerned about the type of bedding please contact the hotel and make your request know.

As of yesterday the hotel is still honoring reservations at the group rate.

when I made my reservation back in April even then they told me the double rooms with queen beds were not available.  I had to get 2 twins.  But I called back today and requested they change to 2 queens because it turns out there will probably be 3 of us in the room. I have no qualms about sharing a bed with someone, even a twin, but I have to admit it would be much better to have 2 queens.   Anyway, the double-queen was available and my wish was granted.  Well, we'll see when we check in just what kind of room I get.
