Sustiva and Chantix?
« on: May 16, 2007, 10:11:29 AM »
Hey all,

As a recent Sustiva convert, I was wondering if anyone had any experience with Sustiva and Chantix, the drug they just released last year to help people quit smoking.

I have a feeling they do something to each other, mainly that, after nearly four months smoke free, I am now having cravings like mad, even though I am still taking the Chantix.

Anyone have a similar experience?

I find it interesting that Chantix also may induce vivid dreams in some people - it did for me.

I also had a rather nasty time with initial side effects from Sustiva, which have pretty much subsided now, I think.

HUGS,

Mark

Just a wild guess............maybe Sustiva and Chantix are using ( abusing  ;D ) the same brain neuroreceptors .It has been proven that Sustiva and a Chantix , both have a strange dreams side effects............I`ve had a bad  dreams before , now rarely , but a feeling that I`m not alone in my head is constant ,( or to be precise mixture of brain-fog , double alias and  slow thinking scenarios )

There are no pharmokinetic studies, except two small ones (one on warfarin) for varenicline (aka Chantrix) - reported no significant interaction.  It is 80% excreted via the kidney almost unchanged.  It has no CYP450 involvement, so interaction with any HIV med metabolised in the liver is unlikely. Further PK studies unlikely unless there are post-marketing adverse events <<< these NEVER happen do they?.

So, suck it and see I guess...

To note maybe: Chantrix has listed as a side effect  "abnormal dreams" ... it's active ingredient is a compound closlely related to cytisine, a toxic alkaloid found in some plants used by Native Americans in shamanism.

Marc ..........a shaman ,..now I get it ( why a New Mexico ).......huh,since I`m the first in line ,do I have a discount for the first prophecy ?  ;D

And now seriously , I think that Sustive alone is sufficient and powerfull enough for those effects. But with Chantix..........

Hey Al,

If I start prophesying I'm going to hang it up! (LOL)

Thanks Newt. In my presently addled state, I don't seem to be able to do much serious research.

HUGS,

Mark

Mark-
I've been on Chantix for a week now (I also take Sustiva) and now I have little anxiety attacks when I go grocery shopping.  It's really weird, that didn't happen before the Chantix.  Hopefully they will subside.  I'm wondering how you're doing, though, you know, if you were able to ride out the urge to smoke.

Betty, aztecan, it would be interesting to know if Chantix works for you. A new thread ? I'm planning to start after I'm back from vacation, mid-june.
