3rd May . . .
« on: May 03, 2007, 04:54:25 PM »
. . . is Matty the Damned's fifth AIDS birthday. He was diagnosed on 3rd May 2002. For the past 5 years he has considered it axiomatic that nothing good can happen on 3rd May.

Until yesterday. Or today for those of you living in the past.

It's 'flu vaccination time and I made an appointment with my GP, Lady Jane, who was also the doctor who diagnosed me following a routine HIV antibody test, to be stabbed in the arm with a view to warding off the dreaded lurgie.

And bugger me if good things didn't happen.

Firstly the fluvax injection was painless. Lady Jane injects it into the back of the arm where there are no significant nerves to worry about.

Some of you may know that Matty the Damned is a grand-mal epileptic and has been on a combination of sodium valproate and lamotrigine to control the condition. Lady Jane decided, partly because of toxicity issues and partly because I've had a good record of seizure control for a while now to take me off the valproate. So I take 5 less pills a day.

But it gets better.

If I stay seizure free for the next few months, she will sign the form saying I can have my drivers licence back. ;D

Oh frabjous day!

Matty the Damned has not piloted a horseless carriage since 1999 when he was labelled an epileptic so this is exciting stuff for him. Now, if he sees any of you on the road, he will soon have the option of running you over.

You've been warned.

Aussies, even the red-haired type, are way too laid back to experience road rage.

Hey Matty

As somebody who only got into medicine because of the big shiney Mercedes it'll allow me to buy I totally understand where you're coming from - have fun!

The roads in Australia are so straight that I think you could probably have a seizure and recover without hitting too much anyway.

Thank goodness not everything in Australia is straight!  ;)

Matty, I can't wait to hear your exploits on the road.

I can see the headlines now, "MtD does Perth!"

What you'll need is a nice sports car.

I am really happy for you. Keep it up, whatever it is your doing.

Matty,

Daddy thinks you are cool for posting this very positive post.  It is always important to remember the day we started this path, and to celebrate our journey.

The driving thing has to be something to look forward to.  I couldn't have done it for 8 years, but I trust that soon enough you'll be piloting your own wheels once again.  Then you can take me all over the outback to see all the wonders of your homeland.

Love,

and 362 to heterosexuals.
This doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals,
It's just that they need more supervision.

Happy AIDS day.  I long ago forgot the exact date of my diagnosis... end of July I think, or maybe it was June.  I have my first lab reports filed away somewhere but that still doesn't tell me the day I received the fabulous news that I was an AIDS-infested fag.

Hi Matty

Glad to hear things are moving forward..just do me a favour and stay in that little country retreat of yours while you are behind the wheel...driving in Sydney would be enough to bring on a seizure... ;)

BTW I beat you to it by one month..5th April 2002 for me.
