New Job with travel to various US Cities
« on: August 01, 2006, 03:38:42 PM »
Hi
I was diagnosed 18 months ago after developing PCP, I had a CD4 count of 6 and VL of millions. Now my CD4 is 220 and VL undetectable, so far all good news. My work generally involves a lot of worldwide travel and I've been able to dodge all of the travel restrictions so far, but I've been offered a fantastic contract which will initially involve a lot of travel to various parts of the states. I really need to take the job but am obviously worried about the options I have for getting into the US, as far as I can see the only options I have is to stop my meds (not realistic considering my CD4), buy the meds in the US when I get there or to look for a new contract.
As I want to do the contract does any one know how I can get the meds anonymously on arrival ? Or does anyone have any other Ideas?

Meds
Kaletra
Combivir
Invirase

I'm grateful that I have progressed this far, and this is the only problem that I face at the moment but I'm trying to live my life as normally as possible. This is difficult as you all know, relationships are not easy so trying to progress my career is one thing that makes me feel normal and put my HIV + status at the back of my mind.
I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow and see what he says, but I would appreciate any comments that you have.

Thanks

London,
I see one easy solution to your case: get a visa!  One of the reasons that you should be allowed to enter the U.S. for a maximum stay of thirty days each time needed  is "medical reasons!" All you have to do is get a letter from any doctor in the U.S. --- an HIV Specialist, for example ---  stating that, say, the intervention he is doing is not available in your country yet.  This is something that can be easily arranged between  both doctors in the U.K. and in the U.S.!  You will need a letter from your doctor in England as well to present at the American consulate.
The visa will be valid for a year and it can be renewed as many times as needed.  The only vexation with this procedure is that you will be known to American authorities as positive forever! Do you care about that?

P.S. It takes a long time to obtain the visa: close to three months sometimes.
