This can't be hiv...can it?
« on: April 17, 2007, 12:34:19 PM »
Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me out...I'm very nervous and scared. In mid January I went to Las Vegas and made out with a couple of girls for awhile...one of which was a stripper at a strip club. Her mouth tasted different like she had blood in it or something. Well, I didn't think about anything until about 3 weeks later when I got really sick. I had high fever like up to 104 for a week and all the other ars like symptoms (especially vomiting, swollen lymph nodes with exudates, etc) exactly 3 weeks after these encounters. I went to the ER because I could not breathe very well because my tonsils were so swollen and my fever was still high. They told me it had to be some sort of virus because I tested negative for influenza, strep throat, mono, etc. - pretty much all the normal viruses. My doctor there actually asked me if I was gay. I asked why? She just asked again and asked if i was a needle drug user or what my HIV risks were. I told her I wasn't gay (I'm not gay and have never had relations with other men), not a drug user and told her I wasn't recently exposed to HIV because I didn't even think of "french kissing" as a risk. About a week later I developed tingling and numbness (which still lasts today) in my feet and legs up to my knees. I went to the ER again and they said it was just anxiety! yeah, not so much. A week after that I saw a neurologist who diagnosed me with "post infectious neuropathy" or a mild form of Guillain Barre syndrome. I've read about early HIV ars and peripheral neuropathy so now I'm EXTREMELY SCARED. I'm convinced I have HIV and nobody will take me serious. My ER records also showed HIGH TRIGLYCERIDES which equals high viral load from what I've read about HIV. I also had I believe HIGH PROTEIN count and WBC i believe. Can anyone please give me some advice on what to do next. I've tested negative 8 times out to 8 weeks using rapid tests and regular blood work with my doc. I'm going for my 3 month test on Thursday. If this test is NEGATIVE will I need to keep testing for HIV? I'm just so concerned because of this neuropathy. I know Guillain Barre is an autoimmune disorder so wouldn't that delay seroconversion if that is what I have? Will I need to test out even longer - maybe to 6 months? My doc insists it's not HIV because he said we would have both had to been bleeding in our mouths. I guess it's possible. I brushed my teeth about 2-3 hours before this happened and my gums bleed when I brush. He doesn't even think I need anymore testing and that I just picked up a virus. Yeah, but what virus? It seems that HIV is the only thing that makes sense here. What if I was coinfected with something like HEP C...do I need more testing?

Someone, please help me if you can...I've been seeing a psychiatrist but it only helps temporarily. I just want to know . DO I or DO I NOT have HIV???

Thank you.

The short and faster answer is an absolute NO!

Nothing you have described from this Vegas incident put you at risk for HIV transmission.

It's no surprise you have repeatedly tested negative since you didn't do anything risky.

There's no need for further HIV testing. If this is the only incident you are concerned about then you are reliably HIV negative. Period. End of story.

Your symptoms are something to sort out with your doctor. It's good that you are getting support with the emotional aspect by working with a psychiatrist.

This is NOT an HIV situation.

Cheers,

Andy,

Thank you so much for your support. I guess the main reason I'm so worried is because I read about a guy on thebody.com who tested positive, had all the exact symptoms as me, and said his only recent exposure was "french kissing." a

Do I need further HIV testing or do you think I am reliably negative? Would the Guillain Barre diagnosis delay anything?

Thanks again for your help.

The Guillain issue doesn't apply in your case because kissing is not a risk for HIV transmission, even in the woman had blood in her mouth or whatever it was. Your saliva contains elements which act as a natural barrier even IF any of the women in question were HIV+, and you don't even know that to be so.

The case referred to on body.com is not a scientifically documented one, simply anecdotal and therefore not to be credited seriously. There's never been a documented case of transmission through kissing and you aren't going to make history by becoming the first.

This is NOT an HIV situation. Period.

What about the fact that I was tested for so many other more "normal" things and they all came back negative? Wouldn't that point to HIV considering it happened between 2-4 weeks post exposure and all the symptoms were just that of HIV ars? I just want to be 100% sure that I don't have HIV so that I don't infect my girlfriend. Let's say I do test negative at 3 months post this exposure which will be in a few days...can i be 100% confident that I don't have HIV or will I need to test out to 6 months considering all of neuropathy symptoms?

Thanks again...I've been a wreck this entire 3 months and I just want to be over this. The fact that my doctors don't have any answers for what it was makes it even worse. That's what scares me. It wasn't a normal virus or bacterial infection and with the whole HIV window period all I can do is just sit here and talk myself into thinking it JUST HAS TO BE HIV when I know in my heart that I'd have to be the unluckiest guy on the planet to get HIV through making out.

Thanks again.

No, it wouldn't. HIV does not become the by default explanation in this situation simply because no other satisfactory diagnosis has been made.

Kissing is NOT a risk for transmission no matter what your mind is saying to the contrary.

Period.

See another doctor if you must to get a diagnosis. This is NOT an HIV situation. Period.

What part of YOU DIDNT HAVE A RISK sounds to you like we suggested you get tested over this incident?

If you have NEVER had an HIV test and you are sexually active, it is a good idea to get a FULL STD panel done.

But you DO NOT get HIV from kissing.  Never happened.  Never will.  SERIOUSLY.

Why is it that many sources say to test out to 6 months? Do I need a six month test or is this rapid HIV 1 Unigold conclusive that I indeed DO NOT HAVE HIV?

Thank you.

CDC says 13 weeks/3 months is conclusive.  Thats what we use.

As for the others, you'd have to ask them why they do things. Your results are conclusive.

Do i need to test for HIV 2 or other strains of HIV? It's just very weird that I had ALL the symptoms of ARS exactly 3 weeks after making out with a girl and rubbing my penis on her vagina...never any penetration...

what do you guys think???

I think you need to give it a rest already.  Take your negative result (from a test you didn't even NEED based on your scenario.  Kissing and simply rubbing your penis against her vagina.  Really?  ...Really??) and be happy about it.

Move on.

The only reason I tested was because my symptoms were "eerily" similar to that of ARS and my doc suggested an HIV test. I'm still nervous and don't know what to believe anymore...I just want to know that I'm truly negative. What do you think?

Just,

You didn't have a risk in the first place, and you have a negative three month test after that no-risk incident. Guess what? You do NOT have hiv. You are hiv negative and it's time you moved on with your life.

Symptoms don't mean squat where hiv is concerned. The ONLY way to determine your hiv status is through testing - and your hiv status is conclusively negative.

If you've read the Welcome thread like you're supposed to, you will have read the following:

It's your dollar, waste it as you will. You never had a risk. You've already took a test for this non risk issue and got a negative result which was conclusive. You sure in the hell don't need any further test for HIV. Now, we all know how people go into doctors and make a mountain out of a mole hill thinking they will get some special treatment, but what you are going to get is a SPECIAL BIG MEDICIAL BILL, WITH THE PAPERWORK THAT SAYS NEGATIVE. Go test all you want.

It usually has something to do with what the patient has mentioned or failed to mention to the attending doctor. Did you mention to him that you had a conclusive negative HIV test? That you didn't have a risk. I doubt that you did. No responsible doctor would come up with those test knowing what you claim was a risk and your negative test. Just be ready for the bill. It's not going to be cheap..

How come Dr H from medhelp.org (who is supposedly one of the best STD/HIV doctors in the country) says that HIV through making out happens so rarely that it is considered very low risk. I thought you guys said that HIV has never been transmitted via french kissing. I don't know what or who to believe anymore. How will I know if I am 100% negative from this exposure - do I need to check for other subtypes that maybe haven't been diagnosed yet or HIV 2? Should I do PCR or viral load? I just want to know that I 110% DO NOT have HIV...

Huy guy, you say that you need EXPERT advice, you have had that EXPERT advice, you DO NOT have HIV, it was a NO RISK situataion.  Another question for you to think about - so what if you do have HIV (which I don't beleive is possible), is not a big deal.  For me, diagnosed HIV+ in September 1005, is a minor inconvenience, is nothing, is not life threatening, in some ways (and I like to concentrate on the good news) it helps me, every 3 months I got to go for tests, so far all been good I still not on meds, gets me out of my rut, I get to go to the city, see different places.

Get on with your life!

How can anyone say that HIV is NOT A BIG DEAL? Are you kidding me? The virus is mostly spread by the 1 out of 4 people who DON'T KNOW that they have HIV. I don't want to be one of those people. I just want to know with 110% reassurance that I DO NOT have HIV. Is that too much to ask??

Well, obviously for someone who is actually living with HIV he is able to have come to terms with it. So it hardly behooves you to shout at him about that.

As has been pointed out you had a no risk situation about which you are frankly over-the-top making a huge drama which has absolutely no basis in HIV science.

So I could ask who is kidding who?

Please don't bother quoting other sites and more what ifs to us.

This is not an HIV situation. Period.

You can if you wish get tested, waste resources and throw some money away to collect the inevitable negative result. That's up to you.

The CDC does not say that at all. It's says that it is a theoretical risk. Meaning it could happen but has never been documented to have happened. In 25+ years, it hasn't happened and it's not going to happen with you.

ok,

so it's a "theoretical" risk...how do they know for sure that nobody has been infected through french kissing? People kiss when they have sex...how do they know for sure that kissing did not transmit the virus? Do I just assume I picked up some weird virus and NOT HIV? I'm just so concerned because my symptoms were SO similar to HIV ARS and none of my doctors had any answers for me....

just,

If people could become infected through kissing, then we'd be seeing virgins getting infected and we aren't. Not only that, but we'd be seeing the negative partners in serodiscordant couples - who always use condoms for intercourse - becoming infected and again, we aren't.

There have been long-term studies of couples where one is positive and one is negative. In the couples who used condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, but no barrier for oral activities, not one of the negative partners became infected with hiv. Not one. This shows us that condoms do work and it also shows us that other sexual activities - including kissing - are not risks for hiv infection.

I'm in a serodiscordant relationship myself for nearly eight years. The ONLY thing we do to protect his negative hiv status is use condoms.

Kissing is NOT a risk for hiv transmission!

Being that you NEVER had a risk.  Any test you take at any time is conclusive for you.

You dont need to be taking different tests.  12 weeks is enough in this case.

Enough with this already.  Move on, or seek the help of a mental health professional who can help you move on.

Just another question,

When is more than a 12 week test warranted? In what type of cases?

13 weeks is deemed conclusive by the CDC.  Anything AFTER that is unnecessary.

Now having said that, UNBUNCH your panties about testing at 12 weeks.  YOU DID NOT HAVE A RISK.  Not to mention the vast majority of people will have detectable antibodies at 6 weeks, the 13 week is there to catch the RARE case that it takes a little longer.  You won't magically develop antibodies in the space of a week in your case.  BECAUSE YOU DIDNT HAVE A RISK.

You are getting SERIOUSLY close to a time out.

Well what else could it possibly be? It wasn't mono, it wasn't strep, it wasn't the flu...the doc asked me if I was exposed to HIV. What else could it possibly be?

Besides, you have already been diagnosed.

Anyone who continues to post excessively, questioning a conclusive negative result or no-risk situation, will be subject to a four week Time Out (a temporary ban from the Forums). The purpose of a Time Out is to encourage you to seek the face-to-face help we cannot provide on this forum.

You have done both over and over again, don't be suprised when you get your 4 weeks time out.

I'm glad you're so confident. Why would the docs ask me about HIV if there wasn't a risk? I just want to be 110% sure that it's not HIV. What if I was co-infected with something like hepatitis...

Im confident because im RIGHT.  Did the docs also ask you about strep and mono?  YES.  why arent you just as obsessed with those?  Why do you trust THOSE results but not the multiple HIV negative results?

I dont need to be saying much more as you are now well on your way to a time out.  You NEED to seek MORE and BETTER help for this fear.  It is irrational and not based on logic or science.

If you are infected with Hepatitis shouldnt your doctor have told you?  Since you said he ruled out EVERYTHING else?  Go get some help.... we cant help you.

I'll say it AGAIN....Besides, you have already been diagnosed.

Just,

You can't infect anyone with hiv - you are hiv negative.

Whether or not you have unprotected intercourse with your girlfriend depends on whether or not SHE has also tested negative for hiv and all the other STIs as well. If she has - and you are in a committed, monogamous relationship with her - then happy barebacking to the pair of you.

Do you think maybe I just caught a RANDOM virus? It's just very eerily similar to the symptoms of HIV ARS...especially the neuropathy. I've never experienced anything like that before. That, and my doctor's had no answers for what it was...it's just very hard not knowing what/is wrong with me. What do you think?

Also,  Andy said this in the VERY FIRST response.

If this is the only incident you are concerned about then you are reliably HIV negative.

Can I be any more clear on this?!

NO WAY NO HOW do you have HIV.  How's that.  Better?  Let this GOOOOOO.

Friend...You are obsessing WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too much!! You are negative!! Congratulations!! STAY NEGATIVE!! When I lived in NYC, I took an educational course on HIV/AIDS at GMHC (Gay Mens Health Crisis). I learned there is no such thing as SAFE sex...just safER. There are various levels of safe and french kissing falls in THE lowest risk. The reason there isn't a NO risk is that there will probably ALWAYS be someone will will make claim they got HIV in various ways, including kissing.
Straight or gay...that doesn't matter. You are an actively sexual man and any place that gives the test will probabaly encourage you to test again if for no other reason but peace of mind.

In the meantime, I will mirror the comments about getting a full STD panel testing. Your chances of contracting syphillis is FAR greater than HIV.

So, are you saying that it is theoretically possible to get HIV through making out? Wouldn't both people have to be bleeding for it to happen? I'm just confused...I thought saliva had something that doesn't allow transmission...if that's the case then why have there been a few documented cases of HIV through GIVING oral sex?

It is theoretically possible for you to win the lottery and get hit by a meteorite on the SAME DAY.  It's not going to happen though IS IT?  Saliva has 12 known enzymes that break down the HIV virus.

As for GIVING a blow job, it is theoretical risk ONLY.  There has not yet been a proven documented case that has eliminated all other avenues of transmission.  There is a TON of evidence with sero-discordant couples that proves scientifically that giving and receiving blowjobs is NOT a risk.  Personally, my spouse is negative and we NEVER worry about oral sex, and we do that quite often!  I wouldnt put her in that kind of danger if I thought in ANY WAY she may become infected.  It DOESNT HAPPEN.

You need to try and stop with the what ifs.  You are negative.  We have told you this repeatedly.

I urge you to seek the help of a mental health professional if you cannot get past your conclusive negative result.

We have been living in the era of HIV for over 25 years.  It isnt new.

It does not seem like people dont know how they became infected.  Using personal reporting as a way of determining transmission vectors has ALWAYS and will ALWAYS be a very ineffective way of gathering appropriate data.

The science tells us how the virus works.  As for you letting it go, I cant tell you why you arent.  Only that you should seek professional mental health advice if you cannot move on.  It works.

I am trying to help myself...that's why I'm seeing a shrink. Is it too much to ask to want to know what the heck was wrong with me? I just want to know and I want to eliminate the most dangerous causes such as HIV. I just want to be 110% sure that I DO NOT have HIV. Should I do any other tests for such things as hepatitis or other random viruses? The neuropathy is still here and I can't help but think it's HIV causing it. All I read about is how HIV ARS/seroconversion causes neuropathy.

Please Help.

Just,

No, it's not too much to ask what the heck was wrong with you. However, you need to ask that question of the appropriate people - namely your doctor. We cannot possibly diagnose you here.

You have conclusively ruled hiv out as a possible cause. You were never at risk in the first place with the situation you brought to us. Keep working with your doctor to get to the bottom of what is going on with you. We cannot do anything more for you here.

Keep posting over this no-risk, conclusively hiv negative situation and you will be given a time out to encourage you to look for other causes to your problems. Whatever it is, it is NOT hiv.

Yours is going to be negative. No doubt about it.

Got my results back today...NEGATIVE for EVERYTHING including HIV!!! My doc said the only thing that was a little fishy was my test for mycoplasma bacteria...She said these tests can be hard to read and may have been my acute illness but that it should go away. Is mycoplasma in any way related to HIV or can I FINALLY put HIV out of my head for good??? It's been 14 weeks since the exposure. I'm assuming this was plenty of time for antibody production and that I don't have to test again at 6 months...am I right? I don't know what else I can possibly test for...

No mycoplasma is not related to HIV in any way whatsoever. You are, as you were told you would be, conclusively HIV negative.

For your own sake, please go away. Get on with your life.

Regards,

MtD

I'm hoping someone can help me. My girlfriend of 5 months and I had unprotected sex late Thursday evening while she was on her period. Little did I know, blood was ALLOVER my penis! I wiped it off right away and took a shower. Well, now I'm scared. Because on Sunday, which is 3 days later, I came down with a terrible flu like illness which I still have today. Spiking fever ranging from 99-103, runny nose, swollen tonsils, puss on tonsils, achy feeling, swollen lymph nodes in neck - i think just my neck though, sore muscles, dry cough, headache. I know symptoms don't mean ANYTHING when it comes to HIV but I'm really scared because this just coincidentally happened after unprotected sex and exposure to blood. Everyone says it's just the flu but who gets the flu in August? I went to see an urgent care doctor and he seems to think it's a bacterial infection. He gave me antibiotics but they have not seemed to do anything. My fever just keeps coming and going. We've been having unprotected sex the entire time we've been together but I have never been exposed to her blood. At the beginning of our relationship, she was pretty adomate about whether or not I had any STDs because she insisted that she was clean. She has a one year old baby - don't they test pregnant women for HIV and other STDs? Can anyone help me out here? I'm very worried. I really DON'T think she has it but I'm so worried because you just never know. PLEASE HELP!!!

Just,

I've merged your new thread into your original thread - where you should post all your additional thoughts or questions. It helps us to help you when you keep all your additional thoughts or questions in one thread.

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

I take it you and your girlfriend never tested for hiv and all the other STIs TOGETHER before you stopped using condoms. Perhaps you should.

Just,

Symptoms of acute hiv infection, if they happen at all, don't happen three days after infection has taken place, they take two to four weeks to turn up.

You need to be using condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, every time, no exceptions until such time as you are in a securely monogamous relationship where you have both tested for ALL sexually transmitted infections together. To agree to have unprotected intercourse is to consent to the possibility of being infected with an STI. Sex with a condom lasts only a matter of minutes, but hiv is forever.

Have a look through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use condoms with confidence.

Anyone who is sexually active should be having a full sexual health care check-up, including but not limited to hiv testing, at least once a year and more often if unprotected intercourse occurs.

If you aren't already having regular, routine check-ups, now is the time to start. As long as you make sure condoms are being used for intercourse, you can fully expect your routine hiv tests to return with negative results. Don't forget to always get checked for all the other sexually transmitted infections as well, because they are MUCH easier to transmit than hiv.

Maybe it's time you two got complete sexual health care check ups TOGETHER - either that, or start using condoms. It's up to you.

Thanks Ann,

One last question. Are cold and sinus symptoms with my fever, etc. common symptoms of acute HIV? I've heard that ARS does not include "cold-like" symptoms. What do you think? I guess I shouldn't be worried about the last time we had sex but all the other times were unprotected. I asked her if she had HIV before I got sick because of the blood issue and she looked at me like I was crazy. I just don't know what to think. I'm scared again and don't know when I should test to make sure I'm indeed negative again. I'm scared to ask her to test because she's gonna accuse me of thinking that she indeed has HIV. What should I do!!!?

Just,

We're not going to go through all of this with you again. It's up to you to use condoms and protect your own health. Now it's time for you to act like a responsible adult and sit down with your partner and discuss getting sexual health care check ups together.

Nothing you describe sounds like hiv to me - but that doesn't change the fact that you two need to test together before you stop using condoms.

Should I test again?
« Reply #96 on: March 03, 2008, 12:26:27 PM »
Hello,

I wrote all of you back here about a year ago about a very low risk...where I made out with a few girls one of which was a stripper in Vegas. 3 weeks later I came down the worst illness of my life. I had high fever like up to 104 for a week and all the other ars like symptoms (especially vomiting, swollen lymph nodes with exudates, sore muscles, fatigue, night sweats, joint pains, weight loss, etc. all lasting about a week or so. A week after that I saw a neurologist who diagnosed me with "post infectious neuropathy" or a mild form of Guillain Barre syndrome. I tested negative via rapid test about 8 times up to 14 weeks after the french kissing incident. I felt fine and was told I was in the clear but now I keep getting sick. It's about a year later now and I'm wondering if I need to get tested again. I read many sites that many people who display HIV ars symptoms and test negative for other more common illnesses should get tested at 6 months and maybe even 12 months. I'm very worried again because I don't know what was wrong with me and this whole time I've been having sex with my girlfriend. I definitely don't want to give her anything. Is it really possible that I got HIV from making out and maybe didn't test pos yet? Or did I just have a random virus or something? Does anybody have any thoughts?

Thanks again...

You have reliably tested negative for HIV and there's no reason that I can see to doubt that you are still HIV negative. Quite sometime back Ann suggested that if you and your gf were going to be having unprotected intercourse it would be wise to get tested together and establish that you are both HIV negative. That is if you if you both are in a securely monogamous relationship.

Whatever your symptoms are they have nothing to do with HIV. Discuss them with your doctor(s) if they continue.

And please keep all of your entries in this same thread as you have been asked to do previously. Thanks for your cooperation.

This is NOT an HIV situation.

sorry...i couldn't find my old thread...do i need to retest again over that incident considering my symptoms? i read that if one displays the symptoms but tests negative at 3 months that they should test again at 6 months...so what should i do considering I had every single symptom in the book? and yeah I know all I did was make out with the girls but I tested negative for all the more common viruses...any thoughts?

Just,

Your kissing incident wasn't a risk. You've been told that already, repeatedly.

However, you ARE risking infection having unprotected intercourse with your girlfriend, unless you've BOTH tested hiv negative TOGETHER. You BOTH need to test three month after your last incident of unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse.

If you keep going on about your no-risk kissing incident or your symptoms, you will be given a time out. Please consider yourself warned.

I just read on the body.com where Dr Bob told a person who engaged in anal sex with another man to get tested at the 3 month mark and if negative to get tested again at the 6 month mark. He said that if the 6 month was negative that the guy dodged the HIV bullet...why would he need a 6 month test when everyone here says 3 months in 100% definitive and final? I'm so confused...is it 3 months, 6 months, 1 year?

If you haven't noticed we really don't care what Dr. Bob says or thinks. What we do go by is the CDC's testing guidelines which states a conclusive test is 3 months post exposure. If you'll take the time to read the informational sheets that come with the test it also states 3 months.

Come back one more time and I'll give you that time out you seem to be begging for.

Hey Ann, others,

I actually saw that posting on the body.com yesterday. I guess why it worried me is because Dr Bob has HIV and I just thought he was considered a major expert in HIV and the fact that he recommended the guy get tested at 6 months because of symptoms even after testing negative at 3 months. It just confuses me. Why when someone has a low risk they are considered definitively negative at 3 months but if they have a high risk they need to retest at 6 months or even later? Well, just to let you all know...I tested again today for piece of mind...It's 13 months since my "making out" incident and I tested negative. What concerns me of course...this can never go smoothly for me...is the clinician was talking to me the whole time about odds, safe sex, etc...great man...and said lets take a look at your results - well they weren't there yet. He said sometimes they take a little longer. Does this mean they found something that didn't look right and had to make sure it indeed was not HIV? How often are lab errors made where they mix up samples and what not? Finally, and I know you're all gonna be so upset with me but with people like me who can't let this go it's so hard...it really is...am I indeed HIV negative???

Thanks again...

Just,

Whether Dr Bob is right or wrong is irrelevant as far as YOU are concerned. YOU did not have anal sex, you kissed someone and kissing - French, Spanish, Green, Purple - WHATEVER kind of kissing is NOT a risk for hiv infection. Never has been, never will be. YOU WERE NOT AT RISK!

YOU ARE HIV NEGATIVE!

I'm giving you that time out you've been warned about. Do not attempt to create a new account to get around your time out because if you do, you will be permanently banned.

Hey everyone,

I'm back...just have a few questions.

So, I put HIV out of my mind for 2 years or so...never thought about it again. Well, unfortunately, the tingling, numb feelings in my legs, burn feelings, etc came back...! I went to my doc, did a full blood workup - cbc was normal, HIV ICMA throug labcorp was neg, neg hep abc, neg syphillis, no diabetes, somewhat high trigylcerides...I went to a neurologist and did an EMG and MRI on my brain and neck...he thought maybe I had CIDP the chronic form of Guillain Barre...which is very common for those with HIV...he said my peripheral nerves looked fine and my MRI was normal...I'm just so worried because lately with these symptoms and I've been so tired, etc.

Do I need a PCR test? I was thinking about doing one of those online ones...
Is the Antibody ICMA test reliable?
Don't my symptoms suggest HIV? Acute and chronic?
I had a random virus or something in 06 and again in 07 that was identical to HIV ARS...but it wasn't mono, strep or the flu...wouldn't I need more testing to rule out HIV?
Could I have just had a "random" virus?

My last possible exposure was about 2 years ago...my last negative test was 2 months ago...

Please help guys...it seems like EVERYTHING points to HIV!!! My doc can't find anything wrong with me...what else could this possibly be? What if I have a rair strain or unkown strain of HIV??? I remember getting a call from a lab about a month or so after my 06 unprotected encounter but the call dropped...could that have been a lab calling to tell me that the girl I had unprotected sex with tested positive for HIV???

I'm still so worried...please help!

You maybe back, but only briefly.

HIV is not your problem. You need professional help with your emotional issues about HIV fears.

I don't know you were able to enter another comment but your permanent ban is reinstated. You just don't get it. HIV is not your problem and we're not going to indulge you in a serious conversation about  it as if you really had a risk. You didn't.

I have reinstated your membership but you need to know that you are on extremely thin ice here.

You have reliably tested negative for HIV and have not as far as I can read see that you have ever been at risk for HIV since then. Whatever is going on with you symptomatically, there is no basis in HIV science to think HIV is your problem.

But I can tell you that if you come back again wringing your hands and carrying on with more unfounded HIV questions and worries, you are absolutely going to be Timed Out and possibly banned.

If you have a medical problem see your doctor about it. And if you can't stop worrying about HIV then see  a therapist or other professional to deal with the issue. HIV is not your problem and we're not going to allow you to become ours.

I'll recap everything for you...

Early 06 had unprotected one night stand...
2 weeks later had flu like illness with fever, etc for 4-5 days
early 07 made out with 3 girls in vegas, one of which was a stripper
3 weeks later - horrible virus that was mono/ars like for 5-7 days - wasn't mono or strep or flu
early 07-july 08 in relationship a lot of sex
mid august 07 - flu like illness with fever, tonsil exudates, etc for 4-5 days
early 08 - molluscum - don't have it anymore now - frozen off
last few months - tingling, burning and numb feet, legs, hands

no possible exposures for 2 years

last negative test Antibody ICMA through labcorp - last month and std clinic -- rapid test

so based on my symptoms, history, etc...does this sound like HIV/ARS - do I need PCR test?

I had already gone through the dozens and dozens of exchanges so no re-cap was necessary.

Are you listening or not? Doesn't seem so. No, a PCR test is not necessary nor is any other form of HIV testing. You are HIV negative.

I'm warning you -- you are very close to getting banned again for real and it won't be a mistake this time.

I do have a few questions for learning purposes if someone could clarify...

Ann says PN from HIV doesn't typically begin for 10-15 years following infection...how do we really know this? I mean HIV has only been around for like 25 years...how do we possibly have enough data to prove that?

Also, if you read the thread about how people seroconverted in the just tested positive forum I noticed a few things

1. Everyone who had an illness had one basically that was identical to mine and
2. Most people who said they had a sero illness didn't test positive for up to 6 months and
3. Most people who said they had a sero illness said they got it from oral sex and not vaginal or anal sex which in my opinion proves that oral sex and making out can be risky...

if you go back and read what everyone said you will see...i'm not making this stuff up...this comes from members here who talk about their "risks", their illnesses and how long it took for them to test positive on an antibody test...

can someone comment on these please...
