I try to go to the gym 3-5 times a week.  I usually run on the treadmill for about 30 minutes, 3+ miles.  Once in a while I would lift weights, but I prefer cardio exercise.  I think it is more beneficial to my health.

I'm also thinking about taking a yoga class....not sure if that classify as exercising or not.

I try to walk as much as I can, I am stuck at work for long hours so I don't get a chance to go to the gym as much. Weights at home also. I don't over do it though because working out should release stress not a routine.

4-5 times per week, treadmill, 45 minutes to an hour.
3x per week weights, 45 minutes.
I prefer the cardio, too.
I hate it all, to be honest. but they're habits now, and I really feel like crap if I don't do it.

I try to get in 3X a week for at least 30 minues per time as per the lecture I received from my HIV doctor a few months ago.  I usually do the treadmill for cardio.  In good weather (late spring to early fall) I also try to bike at least 8 miles (45 minutes) 2 to 3 times a week.

I don't exercise nearly like I used to.  I was an old "Gym Nazi" in my time.  Being sick for a good long while broke me away from that routine.  I'm on a here and there basis with it these days.

macholicious looks cute (i couldnt help myself had to say it) havent seen him before....

and optimistic is hot as usual :-D id like sex with him (also couldnt help it lol)

I work out 4-6 times a week....

I usually start off by running on the treadmill for 15 minutes as a warmup

then do weights for 45-60 minutes in this split
Chest/Triceps
Shoulders/abs
Legs/Abs
back/biceps

I try to run for 30-45 minutes or do some cardio 2 times a week at least but if i skip anything its usually this lol .... I like to run and its good for the heart but it burns muscle which is why i try not to overdo it

Exercise does help me out mentally and emotionally also which is a plus....nothing better than lifting 320 pounds on leg presses to make you forget all about the rest of the world (and the next day you forget about any other pain/suffereing because all you can think about it "ouch my legs") lol

id have to vote for yes just so we dont get burned for hijacking a thread (wouldnt be the first time though lol)....

Working out improves sex drive also by increasing stamina (endurance), self confidence, and probably because the rise in testosterone when doing weight lifting....

And im sorry it wasnt my intention to be a cock-block lol

exercise can improve your sex life more than you guys can imagine. Not for nothing but since loosing 30lbs a few year ago and gaining muscle mass I can go on for hours. I lost alot of weight in my midsection which caused me to get tired during missionary position.

but yes, i did notice i big improvement in drive when exercising more regularly.  my docs totally recommend it because of the overall improvement in all areas...boosting immune system & all that.

I apologize if I distracted a few fellas with my replies to the threads, it's just that I am very passionate about working out and wish I had more time to do it. It has not only improved my health but also my self-esteem and sex life. Girls can't get enough of me and the bottom boys either. Geez, I got too much time in my hands this week. (Off from work, started taking Reyataz and have lockjaw and yellow eyes so decided to stay home so my kids and their parents won't suspect anything wrong with me).

Well to answer your question... 3 times per week with weights in my gym at home... then I run every other day 5-7 miles totalling between 15 to 30 miles per week... I also walk up a down the stairs in my place of employment... 23 flights of stairs 4 to 5 times per day... etc... exercising just a part of living... in moderation....

Nope. Nada. Used to almost everyday.
But then I joined Aidmeds and haven't been out of the house ever since it would seem... ::)

My non-exercise is apparently the reason behind my recent palpitations. So as of tomorrow (didn't I say that yesterday? ::)) I'll be starting with the walkies and perhaps dig out my bike and yoga dvd too...I also like swimming in the summer, so I'm looking forward to the warmer days that seem not too far away now...8)

I joined a local gym 8 yrs ago and now I'm totally addicted.  I workout 4-5 days a week....about an hour of weight lifting.  I also do 30 minutes of cardio 3x per week.  Over the years I have seen some real improvements in the way my body looks....but more importantly I feel healthier and my lab #'s have improved as well.  Also, my workouts seem to calm me down and counteract my Sustiva induced mood swings.

Every day.  It is the best way to relieve stress - plus, I work out at David Barton so there is a lot of "eye candy".  I use to work out an NYSC - and speaking of sex, I had the best fuck in the steam room there a few times.  I ride my bike on the weekends, about 60 miles a day and horse back ride in the fall up state.  I am fighting middle age and now HIV isn't helping my low self esteem any either.  Jim

i want to exercise and be healthy it's that my body doesn't want to listen. i know it has to do with conditioning and my body is used to being lazy. i know i should start a cardio program. i do walk a lot everyday my boyfriend and i go on a long walk. i am feeling better since switching meds and my doctor wants me to go to a adaptive yoga class to get more flexible and in shape to start a exercise routine. my boyfriend works out every day and says he feels better and has more energy and i want to join him. i eat right and get the right amount of sleep every night so it's time to do a little bit more to take care of my health. taking these pills alone won't do it i have to give my body the best foods, water, time to meditate. get my body functioning as a whole. everyday for a year i have been juicing fresh fruits and vegetables. you name i juice it and drink it. it's like why didn't i do all this before i was positive? i don't know. don't think it would have made a difference. it does now. i gotta get off my ass, stop being lazy and exercise already.

I usually do the elliptical machine 30-45 mins on a 9 or 10 setting 3 days a week for cardio.  Then on the other 3 days lift...upper body 2 of the days, lower 1.  And switch the next week to lower 2 of the days, etc.

I kind of modified Bill Phillips' book "Body For Life"....i don't do it as intense as he writes (but have stuck with the general basics for like 6 years now).  It's definitely a great book to help beginners and intermediate 'exercisers' kind of get a grip on working out as well as how and what to eat.   Also, in the beginning of the book there are inspiring success stories....one from a man who has HIV.

But as we know there is an abundance of info on exercising.  It's just a matter of what motivates you!

I am a BIG fan of www.exrx.net to get ideas of what to do for my next workout. There is a body map on http://www.exrx.net/Lists/WtMale.html for males and http://www.exrx.net/Lists/MFemale.html for females. you click on the area you want to work on, and it gives you a set of exercises. So when I want to do legs, for example, I can look at the animated gifs to see how the exercise should be executed and the dos and donts of each exercise.

This website also contains tracking stuff, lots of info about safety, cardio, etc and I consider it my workout bible.

Milker.

That is a great website i must say :-D....i think its going on my bookmark pages...

P.S. how many of you that work out actually DEADLIFT...its something i want to incorporate into my workout but if you do it wrong it can be killer on the back :-O

Ask a trainer where you workout to show you exactely how to do it. You have to get your butt and back in a straight line, no arching, look at the position on http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/ErectorSpinae/BBDeadlift.html when he's squatting.

Watch yourself in a mirror when you do it, so that you can ensure that your back is not arched, which is the most difficult to figure out.

This is a great exercise for legs, but trust me, don't do it when you've had too much to drink on the previous night; like most of the leg exercises it pumps oxygen much more than upper body exercises; i've been out of breath fast on that one.

Yup, about 45 min on the treadmill....and if I'm still up for more excercise I hit the pool and swim laps until I'm too tired to continue.  I might go exclusively to laps soon, although I can't listen to my ipod in the pool....but yeah exercise is good for your immune system.....

I'm a big believer in exercise. Newsweek recently had a special issue about all the benefits of regular exercise. There are studies that show that exercise can actually improve neurologic function. Since I've been training for a bodybuilding competition I've been exercising every day. I normally exercise 5 days a week.

Hey guys,

I haven't posted in awhile, but yes I exercise 3 to 6 days a week now.  I'm training to walk a 1/2 marathon in alaska so that has been my motivation.  I walk 45 min 3 days a week outside and do a long walk of 6 - 8 miles on saturdays.  The other days I do yoga or mat pilates.  I love it but I have to admit that I am seriously tired ALOT.  Some days I have to force myself to go workout.  But the benefits are there and my immune system is getting a bit stonger (as I cough and sniffle..).  I am thinking of getting an elliptical machine... but I haven't committed to that yet.

Sadly I haven't been to the gym since diagnosis.  It just hit me so hard the first few months that I couldn't bring myself to go.  Then I became so concerned that my facial flushing problem would make me look like Hellboy if I exerted myself.  Now I'm getting spooked by all the germs that might lurking in the gym.  This is not a good turn of events, or mind.

I know how you feel. I used to go every day for an hour before I was diagnosed and be very fit. I thought it beat TV hands down. Since being diagnosed, I've been only very sporadically.

I think I've let myself go to the extent that when I go, I remember how fit I was and I get this overwhelming feeling of loss. I can't imagine ever being that guy again, unthinkingly healthy. I feel like if I fight for it, HIV will just take it away from me again.

It's a bit of a pity party, because I know that guys who have had HIV for 20 years can look great and be fit - I've been on poz personals and on bigmuscle.com, so I know there are guys in great shape. Healthy HIV+. But I can't get my head around it yet.

It's definately impacted on my ability to deal with HIV though, and stress in my life generally.
