Green Tea works somewhat + ??? + ??? = natural HAART? post thoughts

Green Tea works somewhat they say one cup a day reduces 40% the insertion of virus so what if we add two more things that word somewhat, kind of a natural haart,    + ??? + ??? = natural HAART? post thoughts

any body feel they have stubled upon something that works

look we cant blame the big pharma for not testing every tea and herb, and fruit and mineral, that is not how science is designed, they want to find the one molecule in the tea plant that is effective and get the exact dose and then patent it

i am pro science

none of the thing in nutrition i have tried seem to be slowing the decline in my T-cells

i have never been on haart
and i am scared to death of haart
but i am more scared of death

anyway
when i get to 350 i will go on haart

but any ideas on three natural things that may work

Green tea + +

post your thoughts or things worked for you

i still want to try that trampoline

i don't think you can drink enough tea to make a difference against HIV. i drink green tea every day and my virus was still replicating until i went on treatment. love the tea though. taste good  :P

I drank some green tea on Thursday but none today. Will the virus be able to build resistance to the tea? :P

Big Difference from In vitro (test tube) to the human metabolism.

I don't think its making much of a difference in ASIA where tea is much more embedded as a every day drink.

I'll start drinking some though.

As far as Resistance, if green tea acts as a fusion inhibitor, I don't see how it would drive resistance, unless green tea only blocked one of the two used receptors for HIV, Which is strain relevent.

I think this green tea posting in the hiv news is just a tid bit. Something to watch, and enjoy, but not to bank on. (there is always hope though!)

I've been drinking green tea and white tea for 5-6 years, 1-2 cups per day. It didn't prevent my t-cells from dropping down, but I think it's milder to the stomach than black tea or coffee. And it doesn't make the teeth go yellow. So yay, green tea is a great and refreshing drink and definitely healthier than a softdrink, but probably not a drug effective enough to beat HIV.

"We found that the EGCG molecule itself binds to the same exact binding pocket on the CD4 molecule at the site of the same amino acids to which gp120 binds," said Baylor's Christina Nance, MD, PhD. "When it binds there, the gp120 envelope protein, and thus HIV, can't."

I take 1000mg of green tea extract (purchased at bjs wholesale club)

and all i know is my cd4 went from 475 to 799  in just over 2 months

Hey

I drink green tea. I don't go overboard, just when I feel like it. I don't think it's going to totally block all of my CD4 receptors, that's asking a bit much when it normally takes 3 powerful anti-virals to suppress HIV.

But I did read the study - and they showed that the concentrations likely to be reached in the human body from drinking 1-2 cups of green tea inhibited the action of HIV.

I don't think it's likely to protect you from infection, or replace HAART, but I do think that over the 20-30-40 years you have this infection, it will make a difference.

I don't think resistance is going to be a problem, as EGCG doesn't act on the virus. It binds to CD4 on our cells, which means that the HIV can't bind. So unless HIV mutates to use another primary receptor entirely, which is incredibly unlikely, there's no problem.

So I think this probably does work in the real world, but needs more study.

M.

PS - There is a project that is gradually going through all of the molecules identified by science, and seeing how they interact with HIV. This is a huge computing project, run by the world community grid. To get involved, click on the link in my tagline.

"When it binds there, the gp120 envelope protein, and thus HIV, can't."

Will it then try to bind to something else?  ???

and all i know is my cd4 went from 475 to 799  in just over 2 months

Bedder, congratz on that jump. Speaking only for myself, hearing that definitely prompts me to 'wonder'

There's at least four different threads going regarding green tea: Why don't we try to keep it all together...
