BAH @ THYROID GLANDS.
« on: March 30, 2007, 12:07:17 PM »
So so so a while ago I had to have stupid shit nodules on my thyroid gland removed because they were fucked up and I didn't want to get CANCER (dun dun dun). It wasn't actually that big of a deal and shit. But they didn't remove all of them because there were smaller ones towards the back that were fine and they didn't want to remove more than they head to because they didn't want me to have to take medication to regulate my thyroid. Which is yay.

But they've been keeping tabs on them with ultrasounds and biopsies and crap. I just had another biopsy done on Tuesday and it was shit and I passed out and I felt stupid. But, anyway, they came back benign (yay!) but my mom calls my dad today and tells him that apparently my doctor wants to have surgery again anyway. Seriously omgwtfbbq.

They'd be removing a lot more this time and I seriously am considering saying fuck it. If it's benign and there is nothing wrong then I'm not going in for surgery. Surgery sucks. I'll have none of that unless I have to. Apparently they want me to have it done to save me from continuing to have biopsies and crap but seriously I'd rather do that and pass out twice a year or so than have surgery. I hate. Surgery.

Anyway. Pity and opinions please. I'm in a really crappy mood now because on top of everything else my mom dragged my dad into court today to try and get child support from him EVEN THOUGH SHE HAS NO CHILD TO SUPPORT SINCE I'VE BEEN LIVING WITH HIM. And he woke me up like really aldf;jsfkd early even though I didn't fall asleep until like NEVER last night to rant at me about what happened. She was even going to have the nerve to try and go back in time and get MORE support from him. Which is just ridiculous. Ridiculous. AHH.

I'm okay. Sorry. :[

Jaser,
I am sorry about the thyroid issues. And I'm sorry your parents pull you into their issues. My Mom did that. I knew way to much about my parents divorce and private issues at 16 than I should have, and I hated it.

Would they listen to you, if you calmly asked them to not discuss their marriage problems with you?

Sending you good thoughts! :)

Haha, my parents were never married. The only thing that makes it so they have anything to do with each other is me and I feel kind of guilty for that.

My dad claims to not want me involved in stuff but all he does is bitch about my mom in front of me and it's just like UGH. Okay I get it. And I know my mom is sneaky and stuff and it pisses me off but seriously no one wants to hear someone talk shit about their mom. It's just normal.

But in a way I don't blame him cause I used to live with her too and she's just excruciating. She loves me, and I love her - but she is excruciating. I just wish everyone would stfu and get over it. Mom's not getting support - she needs to get over it. My dad needs to get over his need to bitch about her all the time. Agghhh.

let's go back to the thyroid.

the biopsies sound like a real pain the ass.  Twice/year?  No thanks.

How about a 3rd option?  Radioactive therapy.  I had a real, over-active thyroid and they just zapped it with radiation and -- poof -- it was gone.  No more thyroid.  It's really easy and simple.  You simply drink a cup of radioactive water.  No pain.  Nothing.  And now every day I take a simple thyroid pill, about the size of a head of a pin.  It's painless. Liz had this done last summer.  I don't think she is complaining too much now.  Maybe she'll have something to add to this.

Better than surgery and better than a biospy

If it would save you the trouble of biopsies, go for it. But of course, it is your body, your right to choose.
