Well Hell, Lisa......   Does this now mean that all the "Queer Bois" are going to have to start sharing?  Ego is a damaging thing some times.

I wish your voice was here in Arizona, then we could have a duet between the two of us.  I am just so full of fear when Washington finally realizes that the CDC's figures are so very short sighted and so very old.....  Oh we are going to be in a very un-enviable position, aren't we?

Heterosexual women reading this, take your power and make sure you and your loved ones are protected, this insideous disease is certainly having it's way with your population, and you need to be aware of that fact.

Love,
The Bible contains 6 admonishments to homosexuals,
and 362 to heterosexuals.
This doesn't mean that God doesn't love heterosexuals,
It's just that they need more supervision.

Love,

Until this knowledge becomes fact and the daughters of CEOs start dropping, HIV/AIDS will remain a ghettoized disease laden with stigma and loathing. I've been saying that since the mid-80s and it's still true today.

I was told by a Case Manager at AIDS Project Los Angeles (1994) that 60% of all gay men living in metropolitan areas in the US are HIV+ whether they know it or not.  A few years later, I was interviewing at San Francisco AIDS Foundation, they said the same thing.  Last year I had a copy of the Sonoma County Epidemiology Report and it stated that the highest group of new HIV infections is heterosexual women.  Sonoma County contends that the figures used in that report mirror national levels.  Have the best day

however, when they throw around the fact that the highest infection group is this or that,,, isn't that because they are making people test more and more? now it has become almost mandatory in a lot of health related cases such as in pregnancy. Straight guys don't get pregnant, so they are most likely not to get tested for hiv in the first place, where as homos and girls will....! i mean, who straight guys do you guys know that get tested every 6 months or even every 2 year? i know none!

something to think about....

As more heterosexuals get this disease the larger society will see HIV as a greater concern and finding better and better treatment will become a higher priority.

The social stratification and marginalization of gay men has impacted how this disease became an epidemic in the United States.  Reagan ignored AIDS up until the end of his administration.  Sadly much of our society still consider gay men to be "less than" other members of society.  This is reflected in the shock and dismay displayed every time people not traditionally associated with HIV infection become infected.  It is like "shock, horror, heterosexual women (ie "the good people") are getting it, wow, what a horrible disease".

HIV is horrible no matter who it happens to.  It should be taken seriously no matter who it happens to impact.  There are no "guilty" victims of HIV.

Regarding the numbers of gay metropolitan men who are HIV positive, the figure given by "Stop Aids San Francisco" is 33 percent of gay men living in San Francisco are HIV positive.  One third of these men are not aware of their HIV status.  Unless every person gets routinely tested, we really don't know the statistics.  These figures are only guesstimates.
