I used to be on here two years ago
« on: March 18, 2007, 08:24:56 PM »
Good evening everyone I used to be on these forums about two years ago for a hiv scare but I came out neg btw thanks for all the support everyone gave me here I will never forget people like Andy etc.. I have a loving girlfriend "who i'm about to marry in a year or so" and a pretty 11 month old baby girl" But about 10 months ago I found out I have Oral Herpes type 1 and it turned my life upside down. All I can think about is I have herpes I can't kiss my baby girl and it will be that way for the rest of my life. It is stressing me out to the point where I want to just kill myself. I couldn't really find no one to talk to so i came to this site cause the people here are very supportive and can help me get through this. Thanks in advance guys and I wish you all good luck and good health.

Well you're not HIV positive so it's the wrong place to post to start with.

Of course you can kiss your baby girl as long as you know how the HSV transmission works. Experts in this may reply on this forum, but this is really an HIV forum.

BLock, while we sympathize with your concern, this is an HIV-specific website.

Having herpes does not preclude your being able to kiss your baby. As long as you hare not having an active outbreak of herpes you aren't contagious. But have a conversation with your doctor about the whole subject and make sure you are clear about this subject. You can get straightened out about this but this is not the place for it.

Good luck.

It okay, we just can't really help that's why we say it's the wrong place and we don't want people to mix stories about two viruses that work completely differently but we understand your distress of course!!

Hugz..

If you don't want to discuss the matter with your doctor for privacy reasons, how about calling your local board of health about your herpes concern. They should be able to help you. Or any local AIDS service organization should be able to make a referral for you to get information about herpes.

Believe me, you are a long ways from being the only parent with herpes. You're going to be able to hug and kiss your baby all that you want to. Good luck with getting this squared away.

Cheers,
Andy Velez
