Sound recorder

I have my new HP laptop and I wanted to record some sounds.  It wont let me....The laptop has speakers....but do I still need a microphone to do this?  Anyone?

Some laptops have a built in microphone.  Look up the tech specs for you particular model of laptop.

What application are you using to record sound?  A lot of people use the open source Audacity program.

You can usually find a pin hole somewhere along the edge of a laptop. That's the built in mic. Simplest way to know is run the basic Windows Sound Recorder and hit the record button.

I use Audacity all the time. It's great!

Nice avatar...but I digress.

I tried recording but its flat lining and nothing plays back.  Idont see a little dot in my altec lansing speakers.  Ihave an HP Pavilion Laptop.

Im clueless.
