Ouch....
« on: October 30, 2008, 09:54:38 am »
Firstly let me apologise for asking this question, I'm sure you get tired of answering questions about Oral Sex.  :)

Recently, I met a guy in a club and stupidly, in my drunken madness gave him BRIEF Oral Sex. (Literally a matter of minutes until I came to my senses) I know nothing about him including his HIV status, this is a first and last time occurence and has distressed me a little to say the least.

At the time I had a sore throat, now i'm concerned about the possibility of HIV infection, I understand that Oral sex is low risk, but just need to have an opinion really as my throat was a little irritated at the time.  He definately didn't ejaculate in my mouth. As I was slightly intoxicated, I can't account for pre-ejaculate.

Thanks in advance,

JMK

OK, JMK. This is the deal about giving oral to another guy. Although from time to time we get reports of someone insisting that's how they became infected, those reports never hold up under scientific scrutiny.

Your saliva has over a dozen elements which naturally and effectively inhibit the effectiveness of HIV to be transmitted. You had a single and brief episode without ejaculation occuring. Longtime studies have been conducted of sero-discordant couples, both gay and straight. They had lots of mutual unprotected oral sex and only protected intercourse. The results have been that not a single sero-negative partner has become infected.

Sure, if you have a fresh wound in your mouth or significantly poor oral care, giving a blowjob might not be a good idea. But in general I don't see any reality risk in terms of HIV science.

In your case I don't see any need for testing. We do in general advise anyone who's sexually active to at least annually have a full STD panel done. Other STDs are much easier to acquire than HIV.

This time you're worrying needlessly.

Cheers.

You're welcome, JMK. I'm glad you found the exchange to be helpful. And keep the condoms handy for when you do have intercourse. They really do the job.

Cheers.

Hey,

Just another quick question....  :) I'm really trying hard, not to keep thinking of the minimal risk incident that I had, but today I went to the Dentist for a checkup and was told that my gums are receding due to the fact that I grind my teeth in my sleep....

I was wondering, if this would increase my already small exposure risk....

Thanks again,

JMK

While I encourage you to find a way to eliminate (or minimize the damage done by) grinding your teeth, and promote healthier gums, this in no way affects your risk for HIV. As Andy said, and as science thoroughly corroborates, your risk was theoretical.

I see no reason for testing over this incident, nor from worrying over it further.

Scared.... Probably being stupid....
« Reply #7 on: December 11, 2008, 05:28:27 pm »
Hey, sorry for being so so so stupid.... This will sound absolutely rediculous!

I was out having lunch with my friend who is HIV positive. He was playing with a plastic toothpick and he pricked his finger, I laughed even though realistically it wasn't funny.
(I can admit, that I have a really sadistic sense of humour)

My laughter prompted him to stick the toothpick into my hand, in hindsight I deserved it for laughing.
(I love my friend and know he wouldn't intentionally hurt me)
Although at the moment, I really am not finding this funny and am a tad concerned about it. I know this sounds rediculous but I can't stop thinking about it, it's nothing like a needlestick but that is what I have in mind....  :(

Please help, JMK  ;)

Please follow our rule and keep all of your entries in this same thread. I've merged your old thread with your newest one.

HIV is a fragile virus and not easily transmitted. Getting stuck with a toothpick, even IF it had blood on it is not the same as sharing needles for IV drug use or being stuck with a needle in a hospital setting. You are worrying needlessly.

Read our lesson on Transmission if you haven't already done so. There's a link to it in the welcome thread which opens this section.

Hi Guys,

Today I received a rather "toothy" blow job (OUCH) to the point were the skin on the head of my penis became raw, I then proceded to perform protected insertive anal sex on this guy.... I'm not really worried about this, as I know its pretty low risk even if not particularly pleasant....

I am worried though, that when I was wanking him off.... Some of his semen got into a small slice on my finger, causing it to sting.... Would this be considered a transmission risk for HIV??

Thanks.

JMK :)

JMK,

Once again I've merged your threads. Stop starting new threads each time you come here with a new concern!

If you need help finding your thread when you come here, click on the "Show own posts" link under your name in the left-hand column of any forum page.

Please also read through the Welcome Thread so you can familiarize yourself with our Forum Posting Guidelines. Thank you for your cooperation.

Nothing you did or had done to you with this guy was a risk for hiv infection. Hiv is a very fragile, difficult to transmit virus that is transmitted INSIDE the human body, as in unprotected anal or vaginal intercourse where the virus never leaves the confines of the two bodies. Once hiv finds itself outside its host, small changes in temperature, pH and moisture levels all quickly damage hiv and render it unable to infect. Getting cum into a small cut is NOT going to result in infection.

Keep using those condoms for anal or vaginal intercourse, correctly and consistently, and you will avoid hiv infection. It really is that simple! Read through all three condom and lube links in my signature line so you can use them with confidence.

OK. You've been coming here long enough to have gotten the basics down about safer sex as far as HIV is concerned. The bottom line is that as far as sexual risk for HIV, it's essentially unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse.

Everything else including the latest mix you are reporting are strictly theoretical as far as risk is concerned. So you have no cause for concern about this latest nor any need for testing.

(Re)read our lesson on transmission to which there is a link in the Welcome thread which opens this section.

You need to apply what's already been said to you in the past to your ongoing sexual experiences.

Cheers.

Thanks Ann and Andy, for your speedy replies and putting me "straight".

I think I just needed to see it, in black and white infront of me....
Those little doubts started to creep in, as stupid as they are!!

Keep up the great work,
