Timeing of the medication
« on: August 01, 2007, 03:11:02 am »
I'm curious if there is a major difference between taking Atripla at the exact time every night or not.  My schedule varies from night to night, so I always take Atripla right before bed, however, that time can range over a series of hours. Anywhere from 4am to 6am (I work nights).  My friend, Molten Storm, takes Atripla at almost the exact same time every night and just deals with the side effects if he stays up later.  We both have the same doctor I am curious if there will be a difference between the two schedules.  So far my VL has stayed undetectable over the past year since I started Atripla and my CD4 has varied from 594-540. So far I have not had any major problems with adherence.  I have only missed a dose once a while back when I didn't get the meds refilled in time.  One other time I woke up first thing in the morning and realized I had missed my pill so I took it right away.  My doc said that the medication stays in the body long enough that missing one dose every now and then won't cause a major problem.  I just wonder if taking the pill at different times will cause any problems down the road.  Anyone have any advise?

Thanks!

Falkore

Hey Falkore,

From what I know of Atripla, its efficacy should not be affected if taken an hour or two either way.

Sounds like your doc is on top of this.

Undetectable is a good sign things are working. Just don't skip doses altogether. That could cause problems down the road.

HUGS,
