Denied EIP, other ideas?

I was recently diagnosed with HIV. I make about $33,000 a year, and have insurance I pay for monthly ($150) from my employer, though it's not the best. Meds under my insurance would run about $600 a month. I can't afford that, I'm also part time student so it makes things really difficult.

I found the EIP program in Washington State, which would help cover meds, doctor bills. I was surprised because I just a rejection letter.

Anyone know any other programs that could help me out?

*I'm starting to see how messed up the healthcare system is, I know people who don't make much less than me even $30,000 and get everything paid for including their insurance.

Ugh frustrating!

Good morning.  I can sense your frustration as I've been in the same predicament in the past.  I found a link with some useful information for your state that includes several contact links.  I'd start contacting everyone on the list until I was directed to someone who can assist.

I'd also consider finding your neart AIDS Service Organization.  They'll readily have information and know the different avenues to explore to assist you.  There are several different options available for assistance so don't get discouraged by one rejection letter.

Have you tried the Patient Assistance Program that may be available through the manufacturer of your meds (ex. Atripla has a patient assistance program that pays up to $200 a month of co-pay costs) - there usually are no income restrictions.  Also, does your denial letter from the EIP give you the right to appeal the decision?  If so, you may want to consider doing so - perhaps if they see a layout of your income versus expenses, including your insurance employee premium that you pay out of pocket and your co-pays they may reconsider ---- you don't have anything to lose by doing so - and many times just appealing the denial is enough to get you approved.
