Partner With Full Blown AIDS

We live here in north Texas recently from New Mexico.  For starters, New Mexico has better and more straight forwrad health care.  Thankfully, my partner gets his health care from the VA.     FYI:  if you don't know what the regimine is for health care in another state, don't move, your ADAP may be a real pain, as it is here.  

My partner is somewhat ill with a CD-4 count of 146, but luckily an undetectable viral load.  He is in pain somewhat freqeuently.  His cocktail is Viramune and Truvada with Bactrim, of course.  
how much longer can my partner go with a CD-4 count that has been under 200 for five years...???

Hi James, welcome.

I dont see any reason why your partner cannot go on as normal with a CD4 under 200, provided he take his meds and the Bactrim. Even though he hasnt broken 200 in 5 years this doesnt mean it will never happen. It could happen next labs. Btw, I ahve an aquaintance who has been well under 200 for more than 10 years, and is lucky to break 75...he is happy, healthy and his energy level eclipses mine.

You say he is "ill", and in pain. So clearly something else is occuring. What has his doctors said in regards to his health?

Welcome James,

I am sorry that your move included a drop in standards off care for your partner. Like Mr, Wump I am wondering what problems your partner has had and has the cause off his pain been investigated. As for the ? how much longer can my partner go, I do not think you can get a 100% answer though I  think every one touched by HIV has this ? in some form or another.

Welcome James.  The CD-4 count is only a small piece of the puzzle.  I was under 200 for almost a decade even hitting single digits for a while.  I hope your partner starts receiving adequate care and they determine what is causing the underlying pain.  Even with full blown AIDS, pain is associated with some OI.  Best wishes.
