1974 Dodge Dart. My 5' 1" mom bought it because she "liked the seats and could reach the pedals" not realizing it was a V8 musclecar. My sister was a 16-year-old wild child at the time and we had endless fun as she peeled out at stoplights and did doughnuts in parking lots.

My dad's boss bought a new car every year and gave mom their previous year Ford.  I have seen pictures of a 1950 Ford sedan and remember a 1952 Ford Victoria two door hard top.  There was a couple of Buicks and a Vauxhall Station wagon.  Mom didn't like the cars women of her day drove and one afternoon, she bought a 1962 Corvette with a 327 FI and powerglide tranny.  That was her pride and joy.

When 4 wheel drives became popular, she got a 1972 Chevy pick up and had a 350, out of another Corvette, converted it to propane and it looked like a farm truck with custom wheels, until it got a new paint job.  Dad remarried about a week after she died and his new wife (who didn't drive) didn't like either the Corvette or the truck, they were sold and step mom from hell got everything when dad died.  ;D  Have the best day

Oh, my car... I got a red 1958 Corvette for my 16th BD.  It had the 327, 4 speed and of course in the 60's an 8 track and big tires on the back.

My brother dropped a 350 w/2 4 barrel and a custom interior in his 1959 Corvette.

My sister broke from family tradition and chose a 1966 Mustang.  There were not a lot of kids in our high school who actually liked us.  I did set a record for fitting 7 or 8 high school kids in the Vette with the top off though.

I had not seen or heard from my brother for many years (maybe 20) and went to hometown, America once.  His number was unlisted and I did not have the actual address but, I knew what street he lived on.  I called a friend from high school, she went for a drive down that street and called me back with an address because, there was a white Vette in the driveway.   ;D  Have the best day

My mother never drove a car. My father wouldn't teach ( or maybe allow ) her. If she could drive, she would have put us kids in the car and took off from the old man.

I do remember my father buying a brand new 1959 Chevy. We were all sitting on the porch, waiting for him to come home, so we could go for a ride. ( some of the neighbor kids too) Anyway, he ran into a telephone pole, in fromt of the house and totaled it out, all within 3 hours of pulling off the lot. He was quite bombed !!  :o

hey ray ,
              funny storey  :o .
Two weeks ago MY sister-in-law bought a new Impala (charcoal ) ,this is a dream boat
of this era .  She got it Tuesday ,filled it with gas at lunch time , ran down a
split rail fence and hit a rock the size of the MOON  :o ,on the way home  ::)

regressing BACK too 1962 , our neighbors were building a home on a steep
and I mean steep hill . They had a nice 1959 Polynesian war canoe wagon , I.E. 59 Chevy  ;)
"she" had parked it ,took out groceries ,and turned around to see it careening through the woods
and then clunk into a tree !
She drove the squished thing for a few years , then in 1965 bought the most wonderful
Bonneville convertilbe , she was tiny and drove like a women on the way to a sale  :)

OK Karl, I was confused by the two questions asked in this thread.  That is why I posted the 1940 Lincoln as my "dream car" that I would love in my driveway.  However, the title asks for the car Mom drove that I would love to have again.  Well, this morning I post photos of both cars.

The second shot is my Mother's 1947 Morris, which she owned when we lived on the south shore of Lake Victoria, in Tanganyika/Tanzania, in about 1962.  Dad took all the drive train out and put in one from a 1959 that was wrecked when new.

The Lincoln still remains a dream, and I have never owned one.

A white 1968 Ford Mustang (automatic) with red interior. As a kid, I loved the curved panels in the corners of the back seat. It was the only car mom had that I didn't fight with my sister to be the one who rode shotgun. ;D

OK, I've been waiting for four years here for a thread that featured cars, and being the pig I am, I am going to start unloading some of the photos of some of the fun cars I've owned.  Yes, there are a number of Cadillacs in the collection, I've owned and resotored twelve in all.

Other than that, Maxine, the 1986 Kenworth was really fun!!!!

Karl, if you hit the reply button and not the quickie, you will see "Additional Options" just below the text box, click on that and you can open the attachment box.  Hit "Browse", make sure your photos are compressed to fit into the 200KB maximum size and hit post.  Miraculously your photo will appear, even though you have dial up.  I have always had dial up, 'cause I am a cheap Capricorn.  :)

Enough for now, and if you want more, I of course am unable to refuse.

Carl, I haven't had a car of my own since 1991. Between '92 and '97 when I was fishing I'd end up having "the boat's car". I didn't actually have a valid driver's licence, but each time I got the car, it was because I was the only crew (including skippers) who wasn't actually banned   from driving. ;D

I have a mountain bike though, will that do?

When I was 5, in 1975, I loved my Mom's big old Chevy Monte Carlo.  It was brown with a white top and white vinyl interior....and it had power windows!  LOL

Later on my fave became her black 1979 BMW 320i, which I took my driving test in, c.1985.  ;)

Karl, first off, try Overstock.com, they might have them more inexpensively, and they're just the same product.

I want to know if it looks like either one of these.  The first one was taken when I was 2 in '49, and the second was shot in the barracks in Boebligen Germany in 1969 when I was in the Army.  I just had to have my wheels.

My favorite car my mother drove would be a 1966 SS Chevy Nova. It had a 396 and a 4 speed in the floor. It was red with a black interior  and really nice. I was 14 and she'd drive me to school in it.      We have always had Muscle cars as they are my dad's passion. Another favorite would be a 1968 SS Chevelle, It was White with a black interior and a 396 with a 4speed in the floor.   We've had too many to list them all but I love them.   Cristy                                                      Edited to add:1972(Dodge, I think) Superbee, 1963 SS Chevy II, 1980 Camaro, 1983 Datsun280zxTurbo, 1970 SS Chevelle ,396, 4 speed 1968 SS Nova, 396, 4 speed(that car was scary fast)  I actually got to drive all of those except the Superbee , my boyfriend at the time wouldn't let me have it. >:(       I love car threads.

1958 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, purchsed in 79 with 13K miles on the clock, and was first time around.  I resotored the exterior only.

1953 Chrysler Imperial Town Sedan, Never restored, never needed it.  Kept it until 1995.

1939 Oldsmobile, with 60K on the clock, and also never restored this one.  It cost 750 dollars new.

To be honest, I've never been a big car fan. As long as it ran, I was happy enough. However, my sister was always car-crazy. Then when my daughter came along, by the time she was eight or nine, she could name any car that passed us on the road.

BTW, my sister and daughter have only ever met twice - when she was three months old and again on her third birthday.

As soon as she could reach the pedals and still see over the wheel, she started bugging her father to teach her how to drive. He relented after a while and started taking her to a large car park that is only used once a year for Tynwald Day parking. She was a quick learner. Oh, and she learned on a manual transmission. Automatics are rare on this side of the pond.

Makes me wonder if there isn't a car-crazy gene.

Without a doubt it was a 1968 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham (powder blue) with a banging sound system. When I got my driver's license, my mother let me drive the car.  I remember the first time I got behind the wheel, I felt like the jeweled family crown had been placed on my head. I tell you, that car floated over the roads. .....ah, good times!

One Tampa.  Didn't the '68 Fleetwood have folding foot rests and tea tables in the back seat ?  I never quite acquired a '68 Fleetwood, but as shown below I did have a '68 convertible.  Shown behind it is the first of four Airstream trailers I restored also.  This one was a 1964 Bambi model.

I did have a '70 Fleetwood but it was the regular one, not the Brougham.  My only Brougham was a 1990 that we purchased as our HIV car in New Mexico.  We used to get about 24mpg on it, and drove the wheels off it, doing HIV outreach in southern New Mexico.

The third one is a Fleetwood I found on a Cadillac lot in the early eighties, it was a 1976 with 32K miles on it.  I bought it on a credit card and used it for a work car.  The company paid it off in comps.  Talk about a sled, I loved it, and the trunk would hold a whole electronics shop of spare parts.

Thanks CJC, I'll keep em coming until I either run out or get tired of posting.  :)  I've owned 60 in all, and don't have photos ready of all of them, hell, some I only can remember in my mind, which is leaking continuously.  :(

OK, mr pigley wigley is going to strike again with three more from history.

1956 Chevrolet Cameo Pickup.  This was the first fleetside truck and was designed for the "Contractors" to take to work. In other words, it wasn't made for actual work, but to look cool on the construction site for the Boss.  I got it in Napa California as it is here, and kept it for four years and sold for a small profit.  This truck was also the cover model for a Classic Truck magazine in the '80's.

The next one was my 1986 Kenworth Cabover, which was my home when I met my sweetie in 1988.  I lost a fortune with it, but learned so much more in experience with business.

The last one was purchased strictly as a work truck and it really was.  A 1989 Chevy extended cab with an 8' bed and four wheel drive.  The Airstream behind it was the third one of these I resurected, and it was a 1979 and we used it alot.  This photo was taken in Mirabel park which is right on the Russian River in Forestville, within walking distance from Speers Market, where we shopped when we lived about two miles from this place.  In the back window of the Airstream, we had a bumpersticker that said "Dole for Pineapple", becasue this was during the presidential election period for Clinton's second term.  Also notice the front license plate.....  :)

Moffie65 I don't seem to recall the tea rests, but I do remember the ample room both front and back.

A couple of years later, my father bought a chocolate brown 1971 LTD and my aunt purchased a Pontiac Bonnevile.  I drove the Bonnevile from Tampa to Jacksonville.  That Bonneville was like a yacht on the
road. :D

My neighbor was in a car club, called Phantom Coaches.  His prize possession was his 1959 Cadillac Hearse (used in the movie Harold and Maude).  He claimed to be a Funeral Director but never appeared to work except moving coffins in and out of his garage.  Another neighbor died one year, he was in the band "Sublime" and a few people thought it was me because the houses were similar, Ronny had "crime scene" tape on his front porch.  People were surprised when I went to the bar.  ;D  Have the best day

Sadly, I don't remember what my mother use to drive. And I have not had a lot of cars in my lifetime like many here but I will say my Chevy Caprice Classic because it withstood a hit from a Ford F-150 and it saved my life. I would rather have an older metal car than the newer fiberglass cars they put out these days.

Michael, I love the Cadillac, and the owner has a beaming smile also.

Queen, there is no reason you should remember your mothers car unless you are a car freak, but a Caprice Classic was sweet.

Here are some photos of the "Real Moffie".  I purchased this a bit late for my 40th birthday, and imported it into Oakland.  I drove it for 10 years and sold it when I learned I might not live another year.  I guess they were wrong, and I was also wrong, I really miss my two cylinder car that rode like the best Cadillac.  It was a 1989 Citroen, with a leather interior, and German Brush guards.

Sorry for the brian miss and the double post of the Kenworth, I won't do that again.  :)

The greatest car my mother had was a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air in red and white.  She rarely drove, for many reasons and her next car was a 1964 Chevrolet Impala, pale blue bordering on turquoise, but the car was huge.  It had a bench front seat, that could comfortably fit three adults.  It was a great car for cruising Woodward Avenue (in Detroit) and even though it was huge, it only cost about $3 to fill the tank.  Next came the 1972 Chevy Nova, silver with a black Landau roof, you know the type, that looks like a dead Naugahyde skin.  She bought the car, because her 5'4" frame could actually reach the pedals and she had no idea that a 307 V8 was under the hood.  But I knew there was one there, and I proved it by burning through the first set of tires in 10,000 miles.  My father was not amused.  But it was Detroit, where cars were the lifeblood and everybody was somehow connected with car manufacturing.

All of my friends parents, were executives with either GM or Ford and cars... were everywhere, shiny new test cars and even prototypes could be seen on the city streets.  The annual car show at Cobo Hall was the premier automotive event in America and the new cars just keep streaming out of the factories.  Everything from the GTO, Corvette, Road Runner, Trans Am and the Boss Mustang with the 351 V8 to the Barracuda.  Muscle cars have always been my weak spot and while they continue to evolve, nothing will ever recreate the monster cars I remember.

The car culture of Detroit is every mans dream, big toys for big boys.

'69 Cadillac DeVille, custom 500 engine that was supposed to be in the El Dorado.

It..moved..down the road. Those tires that fixed themselves when you ran over a nail. Red, with white leather interior.

This is at my Aunt's house on Lake Whitney in Waco, Family Thanksgiving. I chauffered my brother-in-law, Katie, Granny, and three boys from Fort Worth..and we all fit.... :o It was a real 'tuna boat'

I really had some good times in this car.

rondrond ,
with out seeing if the head lights are ROUND or SQUARE

It is hard to know the year of this Coupe DeVille !
It could be a 1974 or a 1976 ? 1975 ?

  It IS NOT a 1969 or 1970 Cadillac .

I have owned a 1970 Convertible DeVille for more than THIRTY  years .

It sits in my barn ! I would post a picture of it ,but alas I am unable to post pictures  :(

Ron, It appears that Karl is correct, in that the car appears to be a 1976 Coupe DeVille.  I say that because it has the '76 grille and parking lights, along with the square headlights which were installed for the first time in '75.  Also the rear bumper of the '75 was showing on the side view, but in '76, it was covered with a plastic shroud, seen in the above illustration.  However, the giveaway, was the 500 cu in/8.3 liter engine that was not being installed in any cars of the 1976 line, except for those that had a dealer that knew the stock number for the commercial engine(ie commercial limosines, herses, and flower cars).  Also this car appears to have the very rare cast wheels as an option in 1976.  My El Dorado above is a 1972 with the 500 engine, which actually gave me 21 miles to the gallon, and would smoke  both front wheels.  The engine was dropped as an option in '73 when they went to the 472, which got about 9 miles to the gallon with a projected lifespan of about 60,000 miles when it would unceremoniously blow up.  The company stuck with the 472 for some time, but by 1976, the engine lineup consisted of the Chevy 350 as a base, but most bought the 472, but if you could find a dealer that really knew their stuff, you could order the above car which was very rare indeed.  1976 was also the year you could buy a four door Fleetwood with four bucket seats and a walnut console that went from the front dashboard all the way through the back to the rear window.  This one also came standard with tea tables and folding footrests, and a stainless steel strap about six inches wide through the middle of the roof.  Total production of that one; 1450 cars, which is why I never bought one.

Ahhhh Fleetwoods of the past.  :)

The 472 C.I.  was intruduced  in 1968 !

By 1970 the horse power output was   375 !

I drove mine  257,000 miles before I has a problem with the oil pump , and then
figuered why not spend $4,000.oo  and have the motor and engine renewed !

It's a 30 overbore .and the crank needed nothing but was recoated ,if Igot it right !

I drove My Convertible forever and never fixed nothing !

It looks like it   :o                     LOL

By 1971 they started adding all sorts of smog stuff on the motors .
My car gets 17MPG  around town , but I drive like an old  lady  ;)

By the middle of the decade Cadillac's , as all cars of the era were just shadows
of the power house power rockets they had been !

Our 1979 Sedan DeVille " De'elogonzo  had a 368 Cubic inch motor ,still produced
by Cadillac , the block is the same as the 472 C.I.
And as any Cadillac person knows ,the ONLY way to know if you have a 500
verses the 472 , is to take it apart ,because they are identical from the outside !

The oil pan , Exhaust manifolds are different from Deville to Eldorado  :)

                                                    happy motoring  :)

I payed  $1.86 for  Ethel this morning  ,very nice  :-* :-* :-*

Yep,

You are all correct. It was a 1976.

Katie was talking to me at the time of posting and for some reason, I am unable to filter her out like I used to... :D

It had a 500 engine. It was special ordered by Papa. (money talks...also owning a night club, he knew everyone)  "He did not like the El Dorado, but did like the engine.

I inherited it after he died and it only got 10 miles to the gallon. It seemed that I was at the gas station every day. Sat down and figured out I was spending @300.00 a month on gas.....which led me to thinking...hey, that's a new car payment....

So one day, I pulled into the driveway with the boys dancing around, "Ronnie's home, Ronnie's home"...and then puzzled looks as I jumped the curb, went around the side of the house and continued on up into the woods behind the house until I could go no further, parked and locked it and never drove it again....

...bought a '79 mustang, which must of had a death wish as it mysteriously plowed into "detour, ...road out,... uneven pavement" signs..... :-\

oh yeah, now I remember....that was the day I worked a double shift and couldn't stay awake.  :-\

by the by.....my brother-in-law dropped the engine out of the cadillac and sold it, and parted out the rest for drugs.....sigh

Moffie likes the Citroen, found this in Sebastopol, it decorated the front of a shop.  The partial white fender is my Saab Story, I didn't get there by walking  ;D  Have the best day

Hey Karl.
Need to chime in on this one as I am an old car addict from way back. Mom always drove really boring cars. But the one car she did drive that I would lave to have back is the first new car the folks bought when I was five or six. It was a '71 Plymouth Sport Suburban wagon. Dad wanted a musclecar, Mom said NO! So he ordered a new wagon for it's "trailer towing ability" To that end, we had a wagon with a 325 horsepower big block V8, 3.50 gears in the rear end, and positraction differential. Mom could, (and did. Frequently) get into drag races with it. It would still be burning rubber after shifting into second gear. It also got 18 mpg on the road.
I have had many cars that I have loved over the years. My '67 Continental 4 door convertible, '78 Fiat X1/9. There was also a '34 Ford dump truck that was a daily driver for a few years. My '58 Renault Dauphine, several Jeeps, including one with a 351 cubic inch Ford V8 that would smoke the tires in 4WD and beat a number of "hot" cars drag racing. A '57 Lincoln Premier coupe, the '63 Caddy we recently sold. Istill have the '57 DeSoto Firesweep Shopper wagon, and oddly enough, I really love my '86 AMC Eagle wagon that I drive every day. I could not choose a favorite from them.

 The "Wish List"

1953 Buick Skylark. (Has to be a '53. 54's were butt ugly....)
     1963 Studebaker Avanti R3 (Supercharged)
     1937 Cord, any model
     1957 Chrysler 300C
     1957 DeSoto Adventurer
     1970 Chevelle SS (w/ the LS7 motor 454 cubes, 450hp)
     1970 Plymouth Road Runner- Hemi
     1969 AMC AMX 390/4 speed
1970 Buick Gran Sport Convertible (w/Stage II motor 455 cubes, 420 hp)
     1957 Imperial Convertible

As you can see, I like 'em big, and I like 'em fast. Really fast.
